latest # of HOV stickers issued?

I don't think so... They just want your VIN and license Plate information on the application, if you don't have the app. you can go to http://www.dmv.ca.gov/forms/reg/reg1000.pdf to download it... good luck

9/22- Got my stickers today! The number is 75,600 or so, dont remember the exact number. Since the instructions said only where to put the stickers, I put them as low as possible so they dont look too bad. (On the rear sides, I put them where the plastic guards are).

Funny thing is that both check #1 and check #2 were cashed.

 

Got my stickers on 9/21 - sticker number 9623x.

Full timeline:
8/~4 went to dealer and made downpayment ($500)
8/19 got car - payed mostly in money order (70%), rest in check with hold for 2 weeks
8/25 (Fri) bugged dealer for plates (I didn't say it was important before then... duh...)
got directed to proper dealership DMV person (too late in day though)
8/28 (Mon) bugged proper person, was too late in day again (had already been to DMV)...
[turns out they weren't issuing plates by default, since they were waiting for the check to clear]
8/29 plates issued and picked up plates, late evening
8/30 drove up to SF, got transponder, sent in app
9/13 check was cashed
9/21 stickers came in mail

Now I just gotta wash my car and apply'em...

number 774xx</blockquote>My 32 mile commute typically takes at least an hour. The route is 80 westbound over the Bay Bridge and down 101 to just past the San Francisco Airport. I'll be interested to see the effect of using the HOV lane.

 

My timeline:

9/30 8pm Get call from Sunnyvale Toyota that they have a black #6 available
9/1 Signed purchase agreement
9/7 Check cashed by dealer
9/11 Fax proof of check clearing to dealer
9/12 Dealer walks my registration through DMV and gets me plates
9/12 10pm Pick up plates from dealer
9/13 6am-7am Drive to SF to get FasTrak
9/13 7am-9am Mail HOV application to DMV via Express Mail
9/14 6am DMV receives and signs for Express Mail
9/22 Check cashed by DMV!!!

I don't know why they're issuing stickers beyond 75,000, but I'm very grateful! I hope to see those stickers in the mail in the next few weeks based on other people's posts.

Advice to those still applying:

1. Get the dealer proof of your payment ASAP. I faxed them a copy of my cleared check. The dealers CAN walk the registration through the DMV and get you plates in ONE DAY.
2. Drive up to the FasTrak office and get your transponder and paperwork done in person. They are actually very helpful and if you go early (I drove up from Sunnyvale at 6am to be there when they opened at 7am) there is no line.
3. Use Adobe Acrobat to fill out the DMV form BEFORE printing it out. This makes sure the DMV can read it.
4. Mail using Express Mail - that's what I did and it got to the DMV the next day before noon.

So on the form it says "CA DL or ID Card Number" - do you suppose I just put down my out of state license number there?

You should try that. Also, call the DMV, the DMV special registration problems phone number is 916-657-8035. Keep calling until you get through to a person and explain your situation. I've called them a lot. Most of the people there are very friendly and helpful. good luck

 

My timeline

7/24/2006 - Started looking for a Prius.
8/11/2006 - Got lucky and found what I wanted. Purchased a white package 3.
9/12/2006 - Called and got license plate number from the dealer. Mailed in application, regular mail.
9/22/2006 - Check is cashed.

I think that means my stickers will be on their way soon.

The box that says "CA DL" is labelled For DMV use only. The location to fill in your driver's license has no CA label, and I presume you would simply write in the state, as you would for any other form requesting your driver's license number.

 

Ooh - good call SkiTyke! You're right, the top one (DMV only) does say CA and I must've just assumed that applied to both... sweet. Thank you! Now to get the dealer to get those plates to me already.

07/23/06 Took delivery at my home in Long Beach (So Cal)
(Yeah, paid a $300 delivery fee, but beat paying the standard $3,150 over MSRP So Cal extortion)

07/28/06 Mailed first request for stickers, filled in “pending” for Vehicle License Number

Yes, Virginia, your app can get lost in the mail with no way of you knowing that AND stickers can be numbered higher than the current 75,000 “active” sticker cap due to always allowed replacement sticker requests. Good luck to those still waiting.

 

Good news to upcoming Prius owners. CA bill AB 2600 is now approved by the Governor on 09/29/06. Adds 10k more stickers and extends HOV lane use. Check out the status:

On AB 2600- after reading the Bill, I still cannot figure out if the 10,000 stickers becomes avail now or after Jan 1, 2007......

California laws generally go into effect on the first of January. The exception is emergency legislation which must pass by a two thirds vote of the membership (as opposed to those present) of both the Assembly and the Senate.

 

Sorry I don't have a complete timeline, but there are still stickers available under the original allocation. I mailed my form and check mid Sept and my $8 check cleared on 9/28/06. Sticker #78260 arrived 10/2/06.

 

I talked to Assembyman Ted Lieu's office and they thought it would go into effect on Jan 1, 2007, since it was not emergency legislation (as IsrAmerPrius stated).

So when the 75,000 stickers run out, seems to be no more until Jan.

Question- How is DMV going to keep track of this- a wait list or just say - reapply in Jan?
