Just got a Gen 4, and so far, loving it.

    Yup. My 2008 is dead, like, won't ever see the road again. T boned a F250 @ 65 mph. That car saved my life.
    Just replaced it yesterday with a 2016 C. 64k on the odometer, and aftermarket leather interior. So far, I'm loving it. Softer ride than my Gen 2, and a solid 10 MPG improvement on fuel economy. I just have one question. How do I tell what chemistry the hybrid battery in the new car has? I understand that Toyota used NIMH and Li-Ion in these, but not sure what one I have.

    Sorry to hear about your '08! Those were solid cars. I still miss my Gen 2.

    You got a Prius c? I'll move it over to that forum. The Gen 4 is a different car than your Prius c. The Prius c is based on your Gen 2 actually with a 1.5 litre 1NZ-FXE engine (same one but with Gen 3 improvements) and it uses a NiMH battery (slightly smaller than the regular Prius) and it sits under the rear seat.

    WOW!! Glad you survived.

    Yup, if it's a c, it's not Gen 4. Gen 4 is incredible, though. Either way, if you go to toyota.com and click the link to the owners' page, you can find all the manuals there. A google search should turn up the brochures for your new car where you can find out lots of details about what features it has.

    Was is really at 65 MPH or did you manage to slow down some by hitting the brakes? Whatever the case, it's good to know that it is possible to survive a major accident like that in relatively small and light Prius. People that insist it is unsafe to drive anything smaller than a full size SUV or pickup truck need to see this. From the picture, it even looks like the driver side headlight is still functional.:eek: I hope you have better luck with your new ride.

    Sadly,no...it happened so fast, I didn't even have a chance to move my foot from the accelerator to the brake. I swear by the Prius!


    It's a 2016 Prius 3. No c. has the 1.8L engine, I don't know why I put "C" instead of "3" in my initial post...

    I've been critical of the G4's exterior styling, but they seem to be VERY reliable cars.

    My profile was correct on the model, it was just in the post where I fouled up, and wasn't able to edit it. Pic will go up soon. Anyone able to answer my other question about the hybrid battery pack on whether I have the Li-Ion, or the NiMH?

    I guess the styling is a personal choice. By far, it's the biggest bitch about these cars. My Gen 2, it was laughable. Most complaints were things like lack of lumbar support, shitty turn visibility and other 1st world problems. Mine was that gd fuel bladder. :) I'm liking the Gen 4 styling. I tend to like "futuristic" looks. I love DeLoreans..go figure. On my new car, hands down, I HATE the nav system, and the inability to mirror Google maps on the screen.

    Oh right. Now that we got it figured out.

    Li-Ion IIRC. Only the base Two had the NiMH battery.

    Note that the Li-Ion hybrid battery SOC will vary more often than the NiMH. It appears to take advantage of EV mode more often but because the battery is able to charge up more quickly than before (and more efficient regenerative braking), the software will allow more use of the battery to keep the engine off.

    Wow, that's the most important part.

    But the increased acceleration of the Gen4's ... you're gonna love it if you have a lead foot.
