I just bought an 06 Prius with 94k mi. The MFD screen appears to be sun faded, unit is 86110-47220 I've read about people replacing the Polarized film on LCD's used in other electronics but not much info on the MFD/NAV screen or if this is worth doing to the MFD screen, everything appears to work on the unit ok, buttons, touch screen and nav, except for the orange tint that makes it hard to see and appears sun faded. And I've heard the polarized film has gotten to hot and could be scraped off with a razor blade and new film applied. Instead of paying someone $300 to repair I'd like to give it a try if possible. Has anyone attempted such or is it not repairable with just film, does the Lcd or digitizer need replacing instead? Thanks in advance for any suggestion/advice.

Have you checked the brightness and contrast settings for the screen? Maybe the previous owner has turned the brightness right down.

I imagine you could polish it out - use some car polishing compound and a microfiber towel gently and see if you get results. Can also apply some interior protector after which will have some wax-like compounds that will "fill" the gaps and reduce the appearance of the corroded plastic. Also the screen hood that is available for it makes a huge difference for visibility!

The 2005 my son is using has a very similar issue with the MFD screen. I just ordered a replacement display screen for about $58. I should have it next week and hopefully will get it installed shortly after. I'll post before and after pictures. Hopefully it makes it look new again.

Not sure what part needs replacing, Digitizer, Lcd, diy or send it in for $200-$300 repair on ebay also have heard the polorized film on LCD is burnt and can be scraped off and replaced with new film. Not replacing complete unit, everything works.

Are you replacing the Digitizer or Lcd I'm not sure what needs to be replaced. Did you see the pics I posted and does your sons screen look the same?

Why do you keep responding with unintelligent answers. Your input is worthless and unhelpful. Go tell jokes on Fb. :)

It looks like I bought the digitizer, I need to be a little more careful when I buy stuff, lol. . My son and I haven't been able to get our schedules synced long enough for me to try the install. I have a feeling it's going to be the LCD screen, but I'm going to try it anyway since I have it now. Eventually, when we have a day off together.

Please inform me if you have resolved this issue with your MFD screen.

I have a similar problem and I’m about to purchase a replacement polarizer film from a Chinese factory through eBay. I’m not sure what polarizing angle the outside film is, so I’m guessing it’s 45 deg. Will update later when I learn more.
