    Hello all,

I am doing some mods this weekend to prep for winter, and need to run a wire from the engine compartment to the cabin. I am hooking up driving lights, and need to run a switch.

In the old days, I would drill a hole in the firewall between the engine compartment, and under the dash. On my little prius, I don't think there is enough space to do much of anything.

    Any advise please?

    Paul

If you look under the lip of the firewall you will see a wire bundle going through the firewall in a rubber sleeve. Carefully run a heavy wire or coat hanger through the sleeve and into the cabin. You will find the other end above the gas pedal. Tape your wires to the coat hanger and pull them through. You may have to take the connectors off and reattach new ones inside of the cabin. That is how I ran my after market driving lights.

This is the route that I would use, however the word CAREFULLY was not emphasized enough!!! Round over the tip of the coat hanger so you do not pierce any wire insulation. Note also, you have to be a contortionist to do this easily.... it really is a P.I.A.!!!
Just go slow, take your time!

Had a 'professional installer' run this 'turn-on' lead for me and he nicked ONE wire in that loom that caused the engine to not start. Took them a $500 diagnostic fee and repair from Toyota to figure out which wire he had messed up. Please proceed with caution.

There is an official path on the left side of the car.
See pages 15-19 in this manual
You may not damage a wire, there is no wire there.

I have never seen this document before.
It's now in my Prius ring binder.
Good info, thanks for the link!

Could anyone please send a picture of this grommet ? Presumably this is different from the grommet in the "official path", which appears to be in the wheel well behind the strut.

    Thanks.

Can anyone post a series of photos or a video to show where exactly the grommet is located? I can't find it under my dashboard.

    Thank you!
