2020 Prius Prime oil change questions

    Hello everyone, I did my first oil change today because the dealerships are all closed due to the covid19.

    I went to autozone for the oil and oil filter and realized that my Prius does not have an oil filter cartridge , it used a spin on. Does anyone know the Toyota part number for this so I can use a Toyota brand filter rather than an autozone brand?

    I was able to find 0w16 synthetic oil so I’m good there, I was however unable to find an answer to my question in regards to an oil drain plug washer, is it permanently attached to the drain pan for my year and model Prius prime? I was not able to remove the drain plug washer so I reused the factory one

    Is it 90915-YZZF2 @Raytheeagle?

    That's the one I got for the spring oil change, when I'll (knock on wood) do the conversion to spin-on.

    The dealership parts guy said 90915-YZZF1 would also work, is slightly longer (more capacity), used with some other Toyota's, maybe RAV4 and Camry IIRC.

    Addendum, see the one you pulled off at least, is 90915-10003.

    Any reason for your conversion, other than it gives you something to pass the time:whistle:?

    I never found a need to convert, but once we bought the prime, I had to sell my overstock in filters;).

    Now at over 20k miles, the next oil change will be at my garage and not at the dealer:).

    Time to make some new ramps, or see if @The Critic 's lift is available again(y).

    Yeah, mostly hobby, and I was getting a little nervous about the old-style: one time I found the O-ring down at the end, apparently had jumped the groove it's supposed to be in. Or it might have been a brain-fart, not sure. The conversion parts were cheap through Amayama, I thought what the heck.

    @jerrymildred cobbled some 3" lift ramps, which is enough that he can then roll in his jack and get things started. Are you thinking something like that?

    I'll cobble something together ;).

    Here's what I did previously :):

    I made 4 of them and comes in handy for ensuring the car is completely level.

    I have some 4x4's left over from replacing fencing:

    Turned out ok and good to have some overage(y).

    Thank you all, still have one unanswered question about the drain plug washers, I couldn’t get the factory one off, maybe I didn’t try hard enough but I want to make sure that it’s not a permanent washer but a replaceable one . Thanks

    It's replaceable. I like to back out drain bolt a bit, and if washer sticks, pry I loose with screw driver blade. Sometimes tap with a hammer too.

    Mine usually sticks. And it sticks kind of hard. What works for me is just put the end of a flat screwdriver against the edge of the washer and give it a little tap with the ratchet handle. It'll pop right off. Be sure you have the force going parallel to the pan so you don't gouge it with the screwdriver.

    Anybody know the record count for a stack of drain plug washers stuck to an oil pan? I've come very close to stacking one on top of the stuck one. :D

    Silly question, how do you convert a Prius and I guess Corolla from a cartridge filter to a spin on?

    Never mind I Googled it. :)

    On a somewhat related topic,if you hate the mess of an oil drain drain pan buy yourself on one on these Mity-Vac units. It sucks the oil out of the dipstick tube. With the 0-20 Mobil 1 or whatever you use it only takes a few minutes. After I put the new oil into the motor, I reverse the direction of the Mity Vac and put the old oil into the oil jug.

    I used a pneumatic version Mity-Vac for many years and loved it. For the nay sayers, it really does get all the oil out. I verified it myself by using it and then pulling the drain plug. Pretty sweet. I replaced my original with a larger capacity one and could never get a good vacuum with the bigger one. I eventually sent it back but the original one worked flawlessly.
