I'm trying to replace a 2017 Prius electric water pump but it physically won't come out. What is the trick? Thank you for any help you can provide.
I doubt anyone on here have removed the water pump yet. The best advice is to talk with a local mechanic or get a subscription two days to the TIS technical toyota for complete teardown. I guess its not covered by warranty (over 60k perhaps) which is sad that yours failed so early.

From the diagram of the pump, you would have to pull it straight out. Don't forget the gasket and clean the mounting surface.
Have you tried taking the passenger front wheel off? Usually you can access through the opening there. I swapped out our old 2010's water pump and did it from the top side. It was 5 fasteners. Don't forget you'll probably need some Form In Place Gasket (FIPG) material too.
The trick is you need to support the engine from below with a jack then remove the top motor mount, lower then engine assembly approx 2" then pull the pump off the engine (5 bolts) and out from below. You don't need FIPG gasket material, new pump should come with an appropriate rubber gasket. For gen3's there is enough clearance to pull them out without lowering the engine.
Could you tell us bout the symptoms you had that made you think replacement needed? How many miles on it. Hardly 3 yrs old.
