I'll chime in since I'm in the same geographical region. Heck, same city. First, agree with post #9 that cell towers have nothing to do with it. Also agree that with a 2006 the traction battery is suspect. My 2008 was just starting to show imminent failure when I traded it back in 2014. It might be helpful for the conversation to posit that the SOC meter is only displaying 40-80%. And now, a little story. At the end of my commute there is about a half mile of speed limit 15 followed by another mile of 35 mph. This means that under ideal conditions (no requests for ICE from HVAC) and below 41 mph I am allowed to quietly approach my parking area under electrical power. And of course this draws down my traction battery so that when I make ready at the end of the day my SOC shows maybe 2-3 bars. This is in a 2011 Gen III but I noticed the same thing when I drove my commute in my 2008.
This a rebuilt pack, gets into green consistently. I park the car in the sun always. This is a consistent phantom drain at this work location. only
If relays were faulty, Id see it happen wherever car was parked for 8 hours. That is not happening. No codes on Tech Stream
Then it isn't accessory draw. Ahh.... Maybe it's time to start a conversation with the rebuilder and see what they can tell you about this phenomenon, since this isn't something that commonly happens to cars operating on the factory battery?
I can park for two days anywhere else an no affect. ie i spent yesterday not using car. It was parked with full green. Today, 24hrs later, It started in green(cache mem) and only lost 1-2 bars as real time (1000 feet) went by.
I was thinking the same thing. If all the observations are accurate and everything pertinent has been reported, then I think this is the first time something like this has happened. I'd be going back to the remanufacturer.
i would definitely try to do as scientific a test as i could. one at the tower, and one away from it. just to confirm all your observations. when you get in the car when it's at the tower, is the battery full before driving off? are you seeing the battery level oscillate between full and low in regular driving?
I think there is a misconception that many owners have about the meaning of the green bars. They assume that their battery must be good if it can show 7 or 8 bars on the MFD. That only means it has reached near 80% of its current capacity. That current capacity is some fraction of the capacity of a new battery. Even a battery that is on its last legs can get to 80% of current capacity, which in that case would be something like 20% of its original capacity. I take no comfort in seeing our Gen 2 get to 7 or 8 green bars. Depending on how quickly it got there, it is another indication to me that it is dying.
A friend's cousin had a high voltage wire strung just outside their 3rd story apartment. Maybe 5 feet from the exterior wall. Odd indicators in that apartment. No insects present even tho food was left out. The husband had long spells of sickness, and the wife complained that her 'drive' was non-existent while living there. They eventually moved, I think the complete lack of roaches in a dirty apartment convinced me the insects were more sensitive to EM waves than humans
