I know its said jokingly, but it seems like a pretty good way to get 3 hots and a cot in a local government facility for the duration.

The local Walmart today had milk, eggs, kitchen towels. Soup and rice, and Ramen Noodle soup just empty. I think that things will get available as people fill up their shelves and exhaust their credit cards. I was 8 for 9 of things I was looking for. And every person at the checkout has a case of beer except me. Two Fosters, a 6-pack of Yingling Lager and a bottle of cheap wine.

    Gas $1.709.

After our prematurely ended ski and park trip, the spouse has started her usual post-travel fridge and pantry restocking shopping. (Before these sorts of trips, the fridge is usually almost emptied, and some other items allowed to run low. But the pantry basics are always well stocked, so no fear of starvation.) The first usual store on her normal circuit was busy but missing only a few items. Hasn't been to the usual second place yet.

A spare case of TP was acquired at the most recent Costco sale before this trip, before the shopping panic. So no shortage or panic buying from this household.

You'll be invited to the many bar hotel, where you'd check in but won't check out, after you get the virus.

I hope it will be over in 14 days. But I'm afraid it won't. For 18 months, even 4 cases aren't enough.

No one remembers when cloth diapers and a "wash rag" was the norm with babies? Something tells me New Yorkers might want to google that. ;)

The second place had many more items missing.

On the plus side, there was no waiting line for gas at Costco.

I know what you mean. Once in Honduras we both got something that had us both spending most of our time on the pot. Literally, more than 50% for two days!! If we hadn't had two bathrooms, I don't know what would have happened. Finally, a coworker got a sample to our doctor and he was so alarmed he brought us the medicine personally to check up on us. He said we had two bacteria and a virus. I discovered that I could put the laundry hamper in front of me with a folded up kingsize pillow on it and then just lay my head down and doze while I drained. Sheesh!!

BTW, one of the ways you know you're an overseas missionary is when tropical diseases become acceptable dinner time conversation topics.:sick:

My sister did a stint in the peace corp and she responded that she was on the "parasite diet" when we commented on how she had visibly thinned out over the course of a few months.

Wifey insisted I go out and buy "18 bottles of chardonnay," yesterday, just in case. I really wanted to say "F-Off," but she has been putting up with me in retirement. No issue getting the actual bottles....lots of wine (I did notice beer stocks were puny, but I don't drink much and can do without with no issue).

However, I did have to wait in line for about 30 minutes behind carts and carts and carts filled to overflow (none of them wine).

Well at least with the older folks, it wasn't as if we didn't take it seriously. We knew perfectly well what M.A.D. meant. You had a few survivalists (60's preppers) who made attempts at what they thought was comprehensive survival, but at the time, most of the baby-boomers considered the options pretty hopeless and basically decided that a world after M.A.D. probably wouldn't be worth living in anyhow. It wasn't worth worrying about something you had no control over.
