If you ever go to car complaints, you'll see the gen 4 Prius has the windshield easily breaking or cracking as the top complaint. Anyways, anybody have suggestions for better replacement windshield? Mine got a chip and it will probably crawl across the window in a couple days.
there are threads here. not sure if there's anything better, it's probably more the shape and front of the car design slinging stuff against it
My windshield just got a small chip that Safelite could not repair. I'm bummed. The windshield does seem sensitive.
We got a chip right after we got our advanced, had the chip patched and then a crack developed and went clear across the windshield. We had the windshield replaced but had to have it reprogrammed by a dealer. There are a ton of things that are processed through the windshield. Wipers, lights and the automated distance between vehicles on cruise control. Glad we was covered by insurance. This could have gotten expensive.
Yap, I had my 2 weeks old PRIME windshield replaced. It is a known issue on all Gen4 and PRIME. Best to carry non-deductible glass coverage on your car insurance. As I understand, there are some aftermarket windshields available, but I've read a comment by someone that aftermarket ones may not be acoustic windshield like OEM. I have not read any commenting better than OEM in terms of both durability and noise level.
IIRC, also the glass is polarized to avoid overlapping image iterations on the HUD. While of no consequence to trim levels other than Limited or Advanced, I'd suspect the same windshield is specified for all three models.
That may be true, but when I had my car windshield replaced at a Toyota dealer, they specifically ordered it for the Premium trim. They sounded like HUD on the Advanced trim used different windshields. For me I had no choice but to use OEM for aftermarket parts were not yet available back then.
Word. I wonder what polarized glasses look like viewing through the window. Any idea? I learned some after market glass is acoustically treated. You have to ask for it. Many places don't know the difference. Literally all the glass shops told me all the glass is the same. What a ridiculous thing to say.
My 2017 Premium got a rock chip in the windshield and I had to have it replaced -- no other fix possible. My insurance company sent me to Safelite. The only minor annoyance was that they could not do the replacement with their mobile service. I had to take it into their shop because of the need to recalibrate the sensors after replacement. That was about 6 months ago, and I've had no issues with the replacement windshield.
All true. I have a chip but it has not spread on the passenger side. When I get around to fixing it, insurance covers it. It's been over a year.
