It's got to happen sometime. I didn't expect it at the grocery store.

They will always allow to use credit or debit cards, but they do have a limited supply of cash on hand.

In time of desperation, everyone takes cash.

What if the cash carries infectious disease on it?

They got very good at paying for things without physical money in Wuhan. Granted they were already doing that pretty well before, but I think this cemented it.

We are already adapting to a no-contact, no-travel model of business at lightning speed. There's nothing about this disease threatening our communications networks, so they're going to get a workout. And if they're up, then we have a basis to maintain cashless commerce.

I won't suggest that cash isn't useful, just that it may be different this time around.

It like tools in a tool box. It much better to have more tools than NOT, when you have a job that needs to be done.

If you're worried, you can always wash your filthy lucre with alcohol or in your washing machine. It is linen rag paper wand will survive the washing machine.

Maybe the cocaine on the cash will act as a CV killer.

How will cash become king with social distancing? Only those businesses that pander to wired transactions will continue.

The biggest thing that will happen is deliveries from businesses during this crisis.

A very good commodity is 190 proof vodka. First, it’s 95% alcohol which is a great disinfectant, 2nd it’s relatively cheap and you can get it in gallon quantities, third you can drink it once this zombie apocalypse is over. :notworthy:

Did seem like more people were using cash yesterday.
When was the last time you cleaned money. Unlike your phone, it is getting pasted around.

That started a couple years ago. Don't know how many businesses accept it.

We still pay cash for groceries, but definitely in the minority. I asked a cashier, and she said something like one or two customers out of ten pay cash.

Went to my bank on Sat for a "cash" biz deposit.
Asked if it was busier then normal,
teller said they had to limit people for withdrawals and even turn some people away
she said they only have so much on hand and this was way more than normal.

mrs b loves cash and checks. i keep telling her we get paid to use the credit card, and she is the one who reaps the benefits, but she can't break old habits for some reason.

We "could" put stuff like the once a year auto insurance on the card, and I have in past, but it's been making me edgy, and the last few years I've been hauling out the check book.

Kinda cool to do a few scribbles on a slip of paper and it's as good as gold. :)
