Hi.... I just had a short trip in the city. These days i am travelling on quite rough under construction road. Tonight low and high beams were working fine but after a while i realized that high beams are not working. The blue high beam sign does glow when i pull the lever but light stays on low beam (both sides). Is it problem with the fuze or both high beam lights have fuzed at once? Expecting experienced advise from the kind forum.
Same problem here. Would love some help! My normal headlights work fine but the high-beams don't. I've replaced the bulbs and checked the fuses. Both are good. 2013 Prius Two.
Possibly need a new dimmer switch? (the thing on the steering column that you click to toggle back and forth from bright to dim)
Mine have quit working as well. Suddenly and unexpected. The blue dash light still comes on when the switch is activated, but there is no response from the high beams. Trying to locate a main fuse but having trouble finding any info. Identifix keeps sending me in circles... Anyone have any ideas?
The Repair Manual (more info) has some suggestions in the entry for “Both left and right high beam headlights do not illuminate,” under Vehicle Exterior: Lighting (Ext): Lighting System: Problem Symptoms Table. The first is to check H-LP HI MAIN (20 A) fuse, shown in the Owner’s Manual (PDF) as item 22 in the diagram of the engine compartment fuse box on pages 465–467. The Repair Manual also gives a step-by-step procedure for checking the high beam headlight circuit itself. (See the Electrical Wiring Diagram for the wire colors.) The right and left headlight assemblies have separate fuses and grounds, so the problem is more likely to be in the DRL or DIM relay, or in wiring or connectors. It could be the DIM output of the main body ECU, but this is less likely.
For the repair manual link, it gives me an error. 404 Page Not Found It looks like this page is no longer available Last night I replaced the two 10 fuses and the dimmer relay. (I'm not certain I tested the dimmer replay relay properly though). When I turn the switch on the steering wheel, the blue light comes on and I can hear a click. It kind of sounds like it's coming from the fuse box in the engine bay if I could guess. The parking lights and low beam seem to be working fine (I didn't think to check any of the other lights.) Both bulbs looked fine. I live quite rural, and I'd like to have high beams to prevent my car from hugging a deer.
I have had people complain “both lights went out at once” when actually one failed earlier and they never noticed. When the second failed they did notice. Check the bulbs. Do the drivers side first; it is easier. On a gen3 high beams are separate bulbs from low beams.
I'm fairly certain they both went out at once the same night I noticed they weren't working. I remember turning them on and seeing a bright flash, but didn't realize it was potentially a short/surge. The bulbs all look fine though, I realize my previous post might have implied I didn't look at the actual high beam bulbs.
Test for voltage at the connector for the bulb. If you have voltage, but the light(s) don't light, Likely the filimant if broken.
I don't know how to do that, and unfortunately I'm unsure where to begin. What can I search to find more info and possibly a tutorial? Thanks!
Pull the connector off the plug. Put the leads of the volt meter in the slots of the plug. Turn the head lamps on, you should have about 12 volts, or more. Make sure you have the high beams turned on. Likely, the bulbs are burned out.
