I've managed to get a nice scrape in the plastic body-color part of my passenger side outside mirror. Is that part available from Toyota? It feels like the body-color cap would just snap off, I was hoping I could get one of those pre-painted not too expensively. I'm also tempted by those JDM repeater mirrors, but at $379 they seem a bit dear for someone who gets scrapes on their mirrors anyway. Any thoughts on getting this fixed inexpensively? It's my first scratch or ding ever and I really like to keep my car looking good as I plan on keeping it a long time. Yes, I know I will be more careful next time.

That's what they do with the bumper covers, anyhow.

you can find disassembly instructions in post 6 of this thread: http://priuschat.com/index.php?showtopic=15674&hl=

Paint fades and different batches of paint, even if they are supposed to be the same color, are slightly different. It may not matter too much with the side mirror, since it is separated from other painted surfaces by some black plastic, but if a body shop were to replace your rear bumper cover, they would also repaint portions of your hatch and rear side panels to blend the new color of the bumper cover with the old color of the side panels and hatch. This creates a smooth transition between the old and new colors. If they just painted the bumper cover, then you would be able to see that the colors are different. However, like I said, for just a side mirror that is not directly adjacent to any other painted surfaces, perhaps they would only paint the mirror itself. However, I bet they would still want the car to match the color.
Yes, they are available, and come pre-painted. Here's a dealer selling them for $28.44. http://www.trademotion.com/partlocator/ind...amp;catalogid=2 (pick your color over on the left). Nate

I was wondering where I might get an inside door panel to replace the one I have, where the paint up by the window has bubbled up and flaked off due to sweat and sunscreen. However, at a price of $499, I think I'll just live with it the way it is.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(naterprius @ Sep 25 2006, 12:58 PM) </div> That's exactly what I was hoping to find. Thanks much!
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Marlin @ Sep 25 2006, 11:08 AM) </div> Marlin, how many miles do you have? That's a warrantable condition. Nate
Yes, the side mirror housing just pops on, and, lucky you, comes separately from the rest of the mirror. It's easy to install, and what to do should be obvious once you have the new part in hand and can see how it fits on. Good luck!
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(naterprius @ Sep 25 2006, 01:22 PM) </div> Only about 24K. I didn't figure that would be covered under warranty. I might have to ask at my next oil change.
Oh, yes! It's totally covered! Just tell them the panel is worn, and point it out to them. I warranteed my floor mats when the driver's one wore through at the heel. They replaced the entire set, and strangely, the new ones have lasted much longer. Proof that the old one was truly defective. I suspect your new door panel will treat you better than the old one. <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Marlin @ Sep 25 2006, 01:08 PM) </div> I had my inside door panel replaced under warranty on my 05 Prius a couple of months ago. No questions asked as soon as the dealer saw the flaked area. It is a known problem and probably the reason Toyota changed the plastic to a textured finish in the 06 model year. Don't spend your own money on this defect!
