What would you tell someone who is intimately familiar with Gen2 about the Gen3 to "catch them up"?

I am actually going to put Castrol EDGE 0W-40 in her this next oil change. If not, I would stick with SuperTech Full Syn HM 5W-20 or 30 since she just burns it anyway... Going with the recommendations seen on here. I have also done a lot of reading and I know this may get some people saying "That's not what the manual says." However, the 40W at operating temps should provide more protection through higher temps and others have reported significant reduction to oil consumption.

I mean high high levels of zinc addictive in engine oil 1200 ppm. Not castrol or supertech, those are lower than 900 ppm to meet certified government standards.

I don't disagree. But let me tell you, the underside of the hood of a Gen-3 gets pretty tedious to look at. ;)

    Pick your poison!

Don't purchase a Gen 3 to keep for a long time. Odds are you'll be sorry.

... or even know what oil is, other than that is an evil product of our evil economic system. Well, other than the olive oil they buy at Whole Foods. Now *that* stuff is good. Comes in a green bottle and everything.

If you asked the average Prius drivers what type of oil they used, they'd proudly tell you, "It does not take oil. It's a hybrid!" Yeah, they don't even know their Mom fills it with gas once a week.

Gen 3 will save you $$$ at the pumps but not your wallet in the long run.

There used to be a member on my old signature that said if you wanted to save money, a Prius wasn’t the car to own.

Better overall protection and lesser MPGs, I’ll co sign that any day.

I don't think it's necessarily a bad choice for someone who'll DIY the maintenance. Just be sure you're going in with eyes wide open.

I'd say mostly EGR cleaning. Toyota and dealerships don't want to know.

Appreciate brakes, specifically those two gizmos bolted to the firewall, are another potential financial time bomb.

Maybe rustproofing too, especially in areas using copious salt.

Battery, brakes, and transmission don't seem to be any more problematic than any other version of Prius. Or am I missing something?
