Anybody know what the OE Toyota (Denso?) sound deadening material is? I had thought it was asphalt or some kind of rubber, but I poked at it in the wheel well today and found it's a startlingly soft foam. I'm curious now what material they've used, it seems to work very well (at least everywhere it's been applied). Most viscolastic foam doesn't work well in this application.
The deadener in the floor plan is just plain old asphalt, it looks like the spongy material is for external applications. Incidentally, some of the asphalt had already come loose/crumbled and required replacement in my vehicle. That's how I know, it's plain black when it breaks apart.
This is my first Prius and after 50k miles, I wouldn’t think there was any sound proofing. My wife’s Miata is more quiet with the top down than my Prius. iPhone ?
