After I got the head back on and the cam sub assembly on I put the timing chain back on, all the marks on the gears matched the paint on the chain and after putting there timing chain cover on I forgot to rotate the pulley counter clockwise to engage the tensioner and now I have three code P0016, did the chain jump a tooth? It's a little sluggish accelerating from a stop but no strange sounds. Is this simply pulling the cover and aligning everything up and rotate to engage tensioner? Thanks for the help.
It is definitely possible that your timing is off. Proceed with great care; running that engine with wrong timing can damage it.
Sorry, I'm still trying to figure out how to post and reply lol I'm going to tear into it this weekend, I'm sure it jumped a tooth and with the manual it looks like just realigning everything then rotate to engage tensioner.
With all timing belts or chains, you should release the tensioner and then turn the motor over two full revolutions of the crankshaft pulley. This will spin the camshaft(s) one revolution. Once you bring it back to where the crank pulley is in time, your chain should be tight and all of the crank/camshaft marks should line up with the marks on the engine correctly. This prevents you from installing a chain one tooth off, and having that fact hidden by the slack in the chain... which is present only on one side of the chain. (Obviously, the painted teeth on the chain will not match up anymore when you spin the motor over. That’s normal.)
