Greetings all, I came across this speaker at parts express and am tempted to replace my current JBL front door speakers. No amp change, just swap speakers and keep existing tweeters. Dayton Audio PS65LP-4 6-1/2" Ultra Efficient Low Profile Full-Range Driver 4 Ohm Impedance is higher, but it is rather efficient (99 db SPL). All thoughts and/or experience is welcome. Cheers, tom
Full disclaimer, I haven't heard an audio upgraded prius before. Also don't recall seeing those DAs before, but I have excuses. Do you have plans for additional upgrades in the future? (sub, active crossover, amp, etc) Though not quite the same specs (those DAs roll off quickly, and have a lower RMS), these should fit in the front with a little massaging (they will for sure fit in the back), and the 2 ohm (or 4 ohm) version is nearly the same price as those DAs : https://www.diymobileaudio.com/attachments/sa-mb6-data-sheet-pdf.250139/ Might find someone locally who has them installed and take a listen, as I've never heard them. Hard to find many decent low profile 2ohm (or 4ohm) options, but I would keep researching, as you're already willing to spend above the entry/budget level at this point. The above speakers could be the most bang for the buck, and you get to support Eric's work.
Thanks SFO, I have no current plans for future upgrades, just wanting to replace existing fronts. That is an intriguing speaker recommendation to be sure, a 2 ohm version. I reckon I could go hog wild replacing everything, but I have other priorities right now. The cheapo strategy (for me) are a pair of JBLs (GX628) at Best Buy. I have a gift card, so this is a simple solution.
