A lot of the buttons on my steering wheel don't work. Ie defrost button. It has been like this for a long time. Seen a few other threads with people reporting similar issues but no one ever says what the actual fix was. I don't think it's a fuse since every other electronic works besides a few buttons on the steering wheel. Do I need to remove the steering wheel to check the wires or replace something?
Probably just needs a new clock spring. Clock spring is the cable reel that all the wires go through to go to steering wheel.
The same advice goes for Chinese knock-off junk on Amazon. Really, when a genuine one costs $150, how do you expect anyone can make a replica that is in every way as good as the OEM for $24? Get a genuine OEM one. There are genuine Toyota dealers that sell on Amazon. Even better, get one from an online Toyota parts place like Olathe, AutoNation Toyota Gulf Freeway Parts or even shop around to a bricks and mortar parts department. Expect to pay $125 to $150 for a genuine one. You then can be sure you will do this job only once. Some of these knock-offs don't even last a year.
