So, I lovelovelove my 2006 Black Prius. However, I hate the taupish/beige/tan cloth on the interior. If I had it to do again, I'd definitely have splurged for leather, but since I didn't, do any of you have any recommendations (price not an option) for covering the backseat? I have a three year old son who makes keeping it clean inside a little difficult.

I mean, I could put a sheet over it, but I don't want my gorgeous little car to look like a hoopty. Do upholstery shops change out seat covers? Have any of ya'll done this? These are things I know nothing about...my last two cars had this awesome fabric that hid all dirt/juice spills/stains.

Also, how do you deal with this terrible upholstery?

    Thanks in advance!

My wife insisted we get the grey interior when we got our car. I have to say it does hide the dirt (maybe a little better than the tan interior)

Still - even though I had protective blankets over the back seats, my daughter managed to smear melted lollypop goo over her side. It took many deep breaths, but I think I'm over it now.

I had the leather added. It was a kit made by a very reputable company called Katzkin and installed by Auot Sunroof of Larchmont for $995 While they were at it I had them add heated front seats. The color you have in the same as mine. It is called BISQUE and is not the same as 2004-5 The leather package included EVERYTHING..! Door armrests, Console cover, rear armrest, headrests and seats. Seat airbags are no problem. There's even the little tags on the sides of my front seats that read airbags. Here are some pics. :)

It's amazing how the same car can look beige and grey at the same time lol.. Also, in the last pic, it looks two-toned.

Are seat covers an acceptable option?

Yet another reason to mistrust auto-white balance.... and another reason to love camera RAW mode.

well since hubby's always got some kind of oily mess on or around him, we got seat covers. we got them from toyotapartsstore.com, but they're gt covers. if you go this route go with whoever's cheaper when you look, it's the same product.

they're nice covers, durable and they clean off pretty nicely. reminds me, it's been a while since i've done that.

Best thing about leather is that it's a renewable resource
second best is that it's easier to keep clean :p

I'm told worst thing is that legs stick to it

It'll only stick if it's of poorer quality if I'm not mistaken (esp. that god awful leatherette aka vinyl on the German cars)

so it's $995 installed? or 995 plus tax plus installation?

Cause it seems like a good deal for someone who wants to add factory-looking leather.

Seat covers are an alternative, cheaper solution.

We have a set of Wet Okole's ordered - we just got the ones for the front seats, but they make them for all seats.

Made of neoprene, if they get dirty, just wash them. I can't wait to get them - should add a little extra cushioning to the seats, too!
