Gen 3 owners, how do you justify your gen 4 purchase?

    Reading about headgasket/EGR issues has me re-evaluating my thoughts of 10k mile OCI, which I've done on my cars since the 80s (mostly VAG products). That said, my 5k UOA from Blackstone shows no issues whatsoever, and a recommendation to keep the oil for at least another 2.5 k miles. I'll send another sample again, for my own curiosity. (I'm not thread drifting here, and I'M NOT ADVISING ANYONE ELSE TO DO THIS!)

    I've tried for 16 years to own a Prius. The Gen 4 was the first one that drove in a manner my wife and I liked, ditto my 20-year-old son (owned a 2009 VW JSW TDI, 2011 GTI, Ford Cmax). We like the Gen 4 MUCH more than previous generations.

    Also, I'm 65, a concert pianist, and don't have the same passion for changing my own oil/tranny fluid/brake fluid, etc. etc. I'm trusting the reliability factor, and also, I'm at the point where I'm keeping my fingernails clean ALL THE TIME!

    Hmmm. I keep thinking about peeking into mine. It now has 41,500+ miles.

    Info on the intake manifold and throttle body hold-down bolts/nuts torque attached. Hmm, it has the intake manifold, but not seeing the throttle body values. Will look further. Third gen was 7 ft/lb. I'll bet you can disconnect and lift off the throttle body for cleaning, without disconnecting coolant lines.

    No - just keeping my ear to the ground.

    Part of me says, at 66yrs old, it'll be my last chance to have something like this:

    Then I think of carrying grandchildren - and the Mustang is only 4 seats (but the Manual is 6 speed).

    Then part of me says - sensible - so a Corolla Hybrid or RAVE4 Hybrid (though neither have a HUD which I'd miss) - or the new Ford Escape PlugIn Hybrid (if it comes here.

    Actually - what I'd like is a top of the line COROLLA Hybrid WAGON - with HUD - but TOYOTA won't bring them here. Oh - in bright YELLOW.

    You blew my mind when you said Gen 5 because I completely spaced the fact that the Gen 4 "is" getting old so we could see something maybe within 2 years. If that EV could go to 50 or 75 that would be highly appealing for my needs.

    No, I never even heard of the EGR system until this post. Thank you for enlightening me. I will DEFINITELY look into that. I know the 2019 received some updates. Did any of those updates factor into what you describe as "rides like a luxury car" or were you generalizing all of gen 4? Ride quality and road noise are my 2 biggest must haves.
