In March, I traded my 2005 Prius for a 2006 Prius. My average mileage with my 2005 was 51 mpg which included a combination of city and highway driving. Since I live in So. Florida, I rarely turn my AC off and always keep it on 78 degrees. I now have almost 10,000 miles on my 2006 and it barely gets 47 mpg with the same conditions, same driving style and 40 pounds in each tire. I have two friends that purchased their 2006 Prius about the same time and they are also getting similiar mileage. Why does the 2006 models not perform as well as the 2004-2005 models?
Same route traveled? Oil level? Oil type the same? Have you had the alignment checked? That's the list of things I'd start with to check. What was your mileage the first 10k miles you had the '05?
