Has anyone on here ever swap a Prius engine or know a mechanic or mechanic shop that has done it. Around the Bay Area ?
Thanks ...if I can’t find a mechanic or a shop that willing to do it correctly. I may have to do it myself
I'm wondering - would it be better to just get a GEN4 - it's so much better as a car to drive than a GEN3.
Another link, a series of videos, 4th gen into a Prius v: Swapping in a Gen 4 Prius' 2ZR Engine into the Prius v | PriusChat The First Transplant, the thread escapes me, it was by @cnc97 I'm 99% sure. And being the first person to do this (probably in the world), that's something. Maybe someone can post a link. BTW, maybe this should be in 3rd gen maintenance, kind of a fish out of water? OP can report and request it be transferred.
Berkeley ? Haven’t seen a Avis automotive In berk? Thanks It seem like the gen4 engine are more reliable then the gen3
Pretty sure Art's automotive was meant, and would be curious what they might charge for a gen4 engine swap. Art's Automotive - Japanese automotive specialists since 1980
Thinking of it, the entire engine compartment contents would likely to be needed - Engine, Inverter, Transaxle, 12v battery (different type) A/C, P/S, Catalytic Converter etc etc. Then there's the computer(s) and wiring loom - and I'm not sure about the battery, as it's not just in a different place, but it's a different specification. I can't see that it is worth spending that on an old Gen 3. Easier to just buy a Gen 4, much better car. But, I guess anything is possible, within reason.
Yea arts automotive try to get me to sell my Prius talkin about it’s a bad bad car. Hybrid of that model are the worst according to the dude there. Crazy
i always get arts and avis mixed up. i'm surprised to hear that about art, maybe he's sick of repairing gen 3's
I’m not that savvy with cars n oils. But since my last oil change the dip stick has the oil at half have put 1,500 miles since the oil chance
