A bit of challenging project as I have never done before but turned out really great. Crutchfield team was very veryyyy helpful.
Here is the image that is not upside down (first two should look ok). GFKing is just a magnet phone holder.
That's exactly what I want to do, so please allow me to ask a few questions: 1. Where did you find the "encasing" that fits the car and the head unit? 2. Is the backup camera still working? 3. What is the behavior of the MFD with the new head unit? Was any functionality lost? 4. Are the steering wheel commands working with the new head unit? 5. Anything else you will want to share about your experience Thanks in advance!
Did you do the upgrade? Any advice? My 57011 is also dying debating doing it myself vs paying for installation. It doesn't look like that hard of a project with the right harness kits.
Have had this unit for 3-4 months and am very very happy. Better than factory unit for sure. << 1. Where did you find the "encasing" that fits the car and the head unit? Matching encasing is offered through Crutchfield << 2. Is the backup camera still working? No I lost Toyota factory backup but installed the one that came with the AVH4201NEXX package. 3. What is the behavior of the MFD with the new head unit? Was any functionality lost? << You can't see mgp data which I was not using anyways. I see my consumption on the dash. << 4. Are the steering wheel commands working with the new head unit? Yes, but you need to purchase an adapter - again offered through Crutchfield. Great radio. nice to have Apple Play too. I did the install myself but did take me a quite bit of time as I have never done it before.
What was the total cost including all adapters? I "upgraded" from a 57010 to a 57011, and it is an improvement, but not enough. Entune includes Pandora and iHeartRadio, but not Spotify. Also, I need a map upgrade. Screen is not very hi-res, and the UI is dumb. Example: On my phone, I can press and hold a number key on the dial pad, to call an important number. Entune requires a too much menu navigation for a "Speed Dial". Debating getting an OEM unit out of a 2015 - 2017 vs. Android Auto. Price is a major consideration. Resolution would be much better on 51005x unit, but not much else.
go to crutchfield and price it out. all needed adapters will be suggested. great company - give them a call too and their knowledgeable team can help.
He already answered that he went with the cam that came with the new unit. You can use a converter to use the original 6 Volt camera with some head units but I do not know about this one. Thanks OP for showing us your install. Nice to know there are options.
