I guess if you wanted to go all out you could order the TRD sway bar kit for the Matrix, 03-08 in this case.

I swapped the corolla sway bar in mine and after a month it’s popping and creaking like crazy. Loosened the bolts and re torqued them back to 180 ft lbs and still no change. Tried more and less torque on the bolts and that didn’t help. Next I put grease on the contact points and that stopped it for about 2 months and then it started again. Anyone else have this problem and finally find a solution?

Mine does the same. After putting some lubricants between joints for a month-ish, then the sound comes back. 03-08 Corolla uses 13mm bolts to fasten, however after 09 Corolla uses 11mm bolts which is the same as 04-09 Prius ones. Quite weird though.

There should be no movement at mounting. So some part is not fitting correctly or it's not bolted tight enough. I think people just normally use the bigger bolts (and nuts) that come with the stronger anti sway bar. I did that two. But maybe you need 03...08 Corolla anti sway bar to do that (in US).

To figure this out you may just need to take the anti sway bar off and look at it, bolt, and mounting location to figure out why it's possible to move.

I think the anti sway bars end peaces (where bolts go though) should be at correct length so that tightening the bolt will squeeze the axle beam enough to keep the anti sway bar firmly in place. So theoretically bolt diameter doesn't matter much as long as it has enough clamping force.

Mine has never made any noise. But I used a 36 inch long bar on my 2 ft breaker bar. So who knows what my torque is. It's tight

I had my back against the tire and used my legs pushing against the wrench to tighten the bolts and they still make noise. They have to be about 250 ft lbs and still popping.

Actually the sway bar came off of a matrix now that I remember. I can’t remember what year it was but I do remember I used the bolts of of the matrix.
