I had my Prius for 6 years without a single problem until last November when I had just driven the car out of the driveway and all the warning lights went on the dash as well as the Hybrid system warning message and the car stopped running. 2 hrs later I was able to start the car and drive it to the dealership (18 miles) with many warning lights on like engine, triangle, tire pressure and the hybrid warning message. The dealership did a software update and replaced the 12V battery. I drove it for 10 days and it did the same thing. Was also able to start it a little later and get it to the dealership where it died again. It started a few hrs later after they said they unplugged plugged things back in, had it running, kept it for 3 days, drove it around and came up with nothing. Took it home and last week (6 weeks later) it wouldn't start. tow truck came and attached battery charger, all lights came on with all warnings again but car wouldn't start. Towed it to dealership and it started a few hours later. Now three days later car is still running and they can't find issue so I just have to take it home again and wait for the next time. Soooooo frustrating. Has anyone hd this problem?

So what was the reason behind your errors? Please tell me, I had the same errors last night and I'm freaking out. Car was in cruise control when the errors came and the cruise control disengaged. The car is also running purely on engine, the hybrid system is not working

Just a guess, but it sounds like one of the many connections in the Prius's electrical system is loose or, more likely, a bit corroded. This can be difficult to trace, but I'd start with any exposed connectors, the bus bars on the traction battery, etc. Good luck. I'm also assuming that your mileage is still OK and that there are no new noises from the ICE or electric motors.

Ok so I got the computer diagnosis done today. It said "p0a80 replace HV battery pack". I don't think my battery needs a replacement. My car has been driven only 54k kms and is 2014 model. No new noises were noticed from ICE. The mechanic cleared the errors temporarily and said to come back if the error pops up again.

So what should I do now? Should I wait for the error to pop up again or should I just go and get the car battery checked by an expert? Please guide me

I got the car battery checked by an expert. He showed me the individual voltage of packs. Pack 4,5,6 were dropping a bit more than every other pack and were charging a bit quickly. There was a difference of 0.5-1.0V. For example if normal packs were at 15.0V, pack 4,5,6 were at 14.7V. How can I know that if battery packs need replacement?

Ok so I got the hybrid system cleaned and serviced and the error disappeared. The voltages were all normal but still after 20 days, same error popped up again. What do you guys suggest that I should do?

the service manual will tell you if the delta between the modules is too large

The error popped up again and I went for the complete diagnosis of the error. So, the statistical values at the time of the error were:
    Speed: 51
Mileage after last reset to the error: 472km
    Accelerator: Pressed till the end
    Delta Value: 37%
    Module 6: 12.3V
    All other Modules: 13.5V
Please note that the delta value remains the same at 37% all the times. Do you think that only a defective module 6 is causing this issue?

Do you think that the delta is too high? What should be the normal delta value? It is Prius 2014, 54000 kms driven

What should be the normal delta value AFTER I change my module 6? So I can see if it is back in the safe range

    Hafeez,

In the U.S. the hybrid system including the battery in a 2014 Prius would be under warranty for 8 years and 100,000 miles. Is that the case in Pakistan? If it is, Toyota should replace the entire battery with a new one.

i don't know the max delta when the car throws the tod, but you can find it in the service manual or probably here in the battery rebuilding threads.

give jeff a call at hybrid automotive for an expert opinion

If you have module 6 showing 1.2 volts lower than everything else, that means one of the 6 cells in the module is bad:cool:.

Each cell is 1.2 volts and that delta is what the computers are looking at ;).

Six cells per module, two modules per block and 14 blocks in the Gen3 battery:).

So if 12.3 v is what you are getting for 6, I think that's probably block 6 and one of the 2 modules there is the culprit(y).

Nah man! I contacted Toyota Pakistan and they said that they only cover vehicles sold via their dealership. My car was UK import. Can you believe that they told me that the whole battery would be replaced and would cost me $3500 at least without labor costs. I'll get the faulty module changed from a hybrid workshop and will update on the progress
