2017 PP Premium on SoCal Craigslist. From listing - "super fast upgraded charger by Quickcharge in San Marcos that charges the battery in 1.5 hours". Anyone heard anything about that? 2017 Prius Prime Premium TrD inspired - cars & trucks - by owner -...
Not a chance... What he doesn't tell you is he starts his charging with ~7 miles left on the battery. Rob43
I'm guessing he has a J1772 charger that he's including with the car and is just overstating how fast it is.
Aside from the inaccurate claim of the L2 EVSE being faster than it is, he also says it's a charger. That's in the car. Also, he says it's a Premium and then says it's fully loaded. Two mutually incompatible claims. But it does look like he's replaced a lot of stuff.
Based on pics, no fog lights, no JBL. Premium probably accurate. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
No - Tony Williams of QC power is web / Electronics / electrical savvy & their site is safe. We've been to several events together. He was the first guy to make the Baja to British Columbia run - all electric back when the worst Nissan Leaf version was released in 2011. Whatever program you're running that says his URL is dangerous is giving you a false alarm. Try a different browser. Back to the OP; you would have to spend $1,000's to replace Prime's onboard charger - in order to charge complete in 90 minutes, from complete discharge to completely full. It's not just a matter of plugging in a new/different portable EVSE, it would require replacing built-in equipment & rewriting contriller code as well. The guy has a LOT of "puffery" in this ad .... so that's just another example - saying it's an extra quick 'charger' . The seller isn't even talking about a "charger". He's talking about the portable evse. That's a charging cable - not a charger. Primes will only accept 3.6 kW's - even if the portable EVSE he has can provide 10kW's. .
The EVSE is outside the car. It can be hard wired to the mains electricity or plug in. The EVSE can vary in the Amperage it can provide, 8 amps, 12, 16, 32, 40 etc. The Prius Prime will not request more than 16 Amps, so having a EVSE that can provide more, is unused capability. It is capable of charging faster, but it won't charge a Prius Prime faster.
Just to be clear... if you go to https://www.quickchargepower.com/ you will get an SSL certificate error, which I suspect is what the poster reporting the error got. If you allow it to continue, it will redirect to QC Charge which has a valid SSL certificate. A fairly common Web issue that says nothing about the quality of the business other than that their IT support is lacking a bit.
That's not entirely accurate. We know of 2 means to recharge Prime faster, both factory options. One is the DCFC port, available in Japan. The other is Charge-Mode, available to all of us. Notice how this video clearly shows the battery-pack accepting double the standard rate...
Since you know Mr. Williams, could you ask if his company did or has something that can boost our fastest 2.5 hour 240V charge time to the 1.5 mentioned in this ad? Thx.
In Hybrid Assistant, if you tap the battery icon, you should get a bunch of details on the battery system including current voltage and current. It isn't working on mine, but I'm hoping that's just due to my cheap OBD2 adapter. Ed
