I must not be searching hard enough, but what kind of bulbs go into the 2017 prius prime headlight?? Has anyone's headlights burned out? Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
I might be wrong, but I thought all Prime trims came with LED headlights that are not really replaceable unless whole assembly is swapped but very, very expensive. They do not burn out like older halogen bulbs, and last for the life of car?
I've done alot of research, and I think ur right. No bulbs, but the whole assembly. And the assembly is $1200 dollars a side! This is crazy. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
Unless you have an accident or something, you should not have to replace it. Is your headlight out? If it is, it should be covered by warranty still. Hopefully, I don't have to replace mine ever.
There might be codes associated with the headlights if the No 1 headlight ECU is out. Of course you could be correct in the headlight assembly is bad itself but the LED lights are designed to last a long time. Plus since they are duty cycled to illuminate, your dealer may want to keep it more than a few hours since getting to any of it is behind the bumper,...that is full of sonar sensors, radar cruise, grill shutter etc.
I do not think he said he has any issues, I think he is just trolling to generate hate and discontent. "After about 6 12volt batteries and 2 HV Batteries, our headlights might fail! Oh No!"
They are LEDs and are supposed to last the life of the vehicle. Also, $1,200 is much lower than the original cost when it first debuted on the LS600h L (they were US$5,000 a piece). Of course, they're still higher than a regular halogen headlight assembly (What do those go for? a couple of hundred dollars? $200-$400 for a Gen 3 Prius halogen assembly?)
YouTube video " '17 Prius Prime Hybrid Over & Under View!" says each bulb is replaceable (about 1:04-1:17) though I do not know how credible this statement is. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
Has anyone experienced slow up shifting of a prius prime headlight. I mean the adjustment of the level of the focussed beam. It have readjusted it several times in the last 6 months and now it reached the end of the screw and won t adjust anymore. I ll investigate this week end... But it s really annoying to flash everyone including airplanes at night! Ps: no accidents or shocks to the headlight in question. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
I wonder if there's something wrong with the leveling sensor. I don't know yet where it is in the Prime, but in the Gen 2 it's under the deck in the hatch area toward the left side.
Do Primes even have level sensors/adjustable headlights? Usually such headlights move during startup, and I don't recall it with mine.
You might be right, not seeing bulbs here: Headlamp Components for 2017 Toyota Prius Prime | Toyota Parts So basically, a one grand "sealed beam"? Our third gen Touring has LED's. Might be the same story, albeit "only" about $600: Headlamp Components for 2010 Toyota Prius | Toyota Parts
Well, there is a difference. You should only need a replacement if the car is in an accident. So the one grand times two isn't part of regular maintenance.
I have seen on Japanese Prius PHV video that the LED head light lens can be replaced. IIRC, apparently Toyota has a part number for the lens only for the headlight, but not LED part. Can't remember how much it was, but substantially less than whole LED headlight assembly.
