That doesn't mean they'd drive better under the influence or that good drivers would drive acceptably in the same condition.

You can interpret it any way you want... After all what is social media but a forum for aggressively asserting your opinion in discussions that are entirely hypothetical...

Oh and real classy the way you use these dead children as an opportunity to push an agenda that may not be related at all to what actually happened.

I guess you missed the part where I'm not.

I put out an example of the problem with this logic, put forth by another poster:

"road rage acted upon should be automatic execution without trial"

I've found myself much more comfortable with road rage scenarios, as well as always improving on how to desclate and drive safe by doing a daily study of this channel: Idiots In Cars

    Autopilot is outraged!

This afternoon, a car in the left lane headed towards mine so I took over. It was an older guy who had to blow his nose with both hands in the left lane while overtaking my car in the middle lane.

Ah increase the annual alcohol related deaths?

I don’t drink and the rager in question may have been drunk.

    also clearly
You and I have different definitions of acted upon, generally someone gets hurt or killed in said case, at a minimum a massive amount of property damage,
if not acted upon it would not be noted in the case of road rage.

also my comment alludes to the fact that government and law need not be fair or just and in some cases unfairness can drive public mentality in a direction of clarity, unity and disgust against things that are actually wrong.

sometimes need to be unfair to force a wake up call to people who are sleeping at the wheel

... or the kids could have been driving slow, & the guy was tailgating & the kids break checked the psycho one time too many.
Yes, all assumptions. One thing for sure, California is where road rage originally spawned itself for the most part - & it's often very nasty, especially out here.
And they say that texting while driving is just as distracting as being drunk. I guess they need to hit the firing squad as well.

All times have been like this, but we now have wider and faster news coverage to collect and spread the details.

In the U.S., current violence rates, at least for the tracked index crimes, are very close to their all-time lows of the 1950s. And numerous other things that were covered up or hidden or even just accepted back then are now declared to be crimes.
Every such system has been susceptible to mistaken / bogus / false accusations, resulting in punishment of some innocents. Sometimes many innocents.
Now we know of an uncommon medical condition named Auto-brewery syndrome. See also NCBI: Auto-brewery Syndrome (Gut Fermentation). These patients can unknowingly become legally drunk, flunking roadside intoxication tests, without ever having consumed a drop of alcohol. Now that this has become known, patients can be treated. But your policy would have just killed them along the roadside without diagnosis.

I hope you noticed the date range of that item. The world was mad long before any of us arrived.

If it started outside the car, is it road rage, or just regular muderous rage?

Uh, the “8 hours bottle to throttle” is a heuristic rule, but the real rule is I think either a .04 or so Blood Alcohol Count when beginning the flight. This Distinction is important because if you cave been completely overloaded with alcohol you may be 8 hours post-drink and still be slightly above .04 limit, I believe.
Some psychoactive drugs would process out of the body to negligible levels in 8 hours, but I am very unsure that ALL psychoactive drugs would do so—the new “designer drugs” are particularly problematic as systematic research on how they are processed is lacking. Even back in the 1970s, high doses of LSD had some rather weird, unpredictable effects on the patients we were treating as far as we could determine many hours after consumption.
Roadside execution without trial seems to violate the US principle of due process under the law, possibly also the prohibition against cruel and unusual punishments. However, my brother-in-law worked in Saudi Arabia for 5 years and they would in fact do immediate roadside lashings or whippings for some kinds of driving violations. He had to carry a special letter from his boss in the Saudi Air Force that said they would make good the reparations and fines for any violations he incurred so that he did not have to be immediately whipped at the roadside. Not sure I would want to emulate the Saudi Arabian system of justice.

You are mistaken. Both are written rules.

FAR Part 91 Sec. 91.17 effective as of 07/21/2006

"(a) No person may act or attempt to act as a crewmember of a civil aircraft--
    (1) Within 8 hours after the consumption of any alcoholic beverage;
    (2) While under the influence of alcohol;
    (3) While using any drug that affects the person's faculties in any way contrary to safety; or
    (4) While having an alcohol concentration of 0.04 or greater in a blood or breath specimen. Alcohol concentration means grams of alcohol per deciliter of blood or grams of alcohol per 210 liters of breath."

That's why there are both rules.

    Obviously.

My colleague was working on a anti-drunk-driving video commercial for a government agency in the 1980s, and they decided to use some of the very best, most famous NASCAR race drivers to help grab the attention of the teen audience they were trying to reach. They actually had the guys drink until legally drunk at a race track and then had them drive a winding course through the barrels marking the course. Unexpectedly, those guys were so darn good that they did not make any driving mistakes even when drunk! In the end, my colleague had to ask the guys to just fake like they were driving impaired and crash into some of the obstacles so he could make the video, and the guys did so because they were all on board in preventing drunk teenage driving, which killed a lot of teens in those days.

(IIRC, the evidence from the studies on texting while driving in a simulator showed more impairment than standard drunk driving results.)

Thank you. Was not aware of the 2006 rules.
Now I wonder what else has been changing.

While I don't care much for alcohol so it does not apply to me (other than as a potential victim) the rule seems overly broad for driving. A 3.2 beer or a wine cooler vs vodka are very different strengths. I believe current driving rules are based on blood alcohol content, I think that is fine. People still break those and they should be punished. Other drugs we have no standards I think perhaps we could start studying marijuana. Immediate execution I am not into.

On texting and driving yes you are looking away from the road, I expect that to be worse. Another one is working all nighters and driving home sleep deprivation is hard core, I have done this one. One of my coworkers fell asleep pulling out of the the company onto the highway and got tboned and broke his femur so we got to work from home after that on large things.

What I don't understand is why car companies are putting all their efforts into central touchscreens that force you to look away from where you are going. This to me is worse than texting. If texting while driving is illegal, then so should 'touchscreening' while driving

Not quite "roadside execution," but yesterday a guy was blind drunk, went the wrong way on the highway, and guess who died. No, not the drunk, the two people in the car he hit. Authorities are charging him with vehicular homicide.
