I want to install a 120V inverter off the 12V battery in trunk area. However I want its operation to be controlled off a relay that is triggered off ACC power so it doesn't deplete the 12v battery when car is off. Does anyone know if there is a ACC power line somewhere near the 12v battery that would be easy to tap off of? SM-G960U ?
One possibility would be the power wire to hybrid battery control unit. It's orange wire in the small bundle going in from the rear left corner of hybrid battery. You can see those when cargo box is out. Perhaps it would be best to use relay with protection diode. Other option might be the harness going into rear wiper motor. Or maybe wires going into hybrid battery fan control unit?
My favorite approach to that problem doesn't require hunting down or tapping any switched circuits, but just mounting a small gizmo InPower makes called the VCM-06 right next to the battery (along with whatever fuses I'll need for whatever I want to hook up). The VCM can simply detect the rise in voltage when you put the car READY and the drop when you turn it off, and turn its output on and off accordingly. It has a few other nice features I've covered in the linked threads. Hard to see the VCM-06 in that picture because I mounted it to the underside of the DIN rail. You can sort of see the screw heads. The silver flat telephone cable in the corner goes to the remote on/off port of the inverter. You really do want the car to be in READY, not just ACC, when using any significant power. The battery capacity is not very large, and just being in ACC without any added stuff will drain it in short order.
I would love to use a microprocessor controlled VCM, but I'm afraid that it exceeds my budget to control my 120v inverter. I did some looking around and Im estimating the HW for a VCM to be >$100. I looked around the hybrid battery and decided to not disturb the factory looming. Of the wires that are exposed, none are ACC controlled. I think I'll just run a wire from the dash area..... SM-G960U ?
