Hello, I have a 2017 Prime Advanced . Is it possible to change LDW w/ SA to LKA or LTA? Hardware wise everything should be in place already and probably I only need a software change ... Thoughts? Thanks!
I certainly know of no way to do that, and I’d be amazed if Toyota would make such an option available. I certainly don’t claim to know, I would not be surprised if they axed LKA for liability reasons: drivers becoming disengaged from the task of driving, along the lines of the videos we periodically see if Tesla drivers misusing Autopilot and reading Email, playing patty cake with the front passenger, etc...
Try Comma.ai with OpenPilot. It should do what you want and more. My Prius Prime Drives Itself | PriusChat
Yes. It works with it. I ordered as well from comma.ai to my 2016 Prius with only LDW, Now it's keep following the lane. Brilliant unit.
Why should I pay 1200$ for an extra device on my screen if the car has already all the hardware in place ?
Because Toyota would rather have you buy a new car with TSS 2.0. There are some technical differences with the way TSS 2.0 functions, so it's not something that can be retrofit. Older versions of the comma.ai products still work if you want to save some money. Many people selling their old kits after buying the new one too.
Can openpilot tap into the existing camera instead of an additional mounted one? Have the software run on a device tucked away somewhere.
No, the Toyota camera doesn't output video. All the video processing is done inside it and a simple steering signal is sent out over the CAN bus.
