Brake Indicator and Then Red Triangle and Car stopped , Can not change gear as well

    Hi
    Today i face brake light indicator, and then red triangle came, when i parked, and switched off , i could not switch off, and after few attempts i switched off , and then i turned on again , i am unable to change gear from P, and brake light indicator and red triangle and engine mark comes up.. i checked battery for leakage but there is no leakage too.. any one can help.
    it is toyota prius 2005

    1. Measure the voltage across the 12V battery. Make sure that both battery cables are tight, especially the negative cable where it bolts to the body. If the battery voltage is less than 12.6V, fully charge the battery now, or get a new one if the battery is more than 4 years old.
    2. If you still have a problem, read the diagnostic trouble codes as the engine ECU and skid control ECU will have logged codes which will provide a clue about the nature of the car's problem.

    thanks for response, may i know how to charge the battery, and how to check voltage (should i buy voltameter) and what is meanty by 2nd point you mentioned about ECU, i did not get that..

    Go to SuperCheap Auto (or Repco) and ask them for a multi-step intelligent charger that will charge AGM batteries and get one that has maximum Amp rate of 3.5 or 4 Amps. Ask them to show you how to use it. Ctek is a good brand, and they come with a "pigtail" you can install so you can do a quick connect/disconnect for fast convenient charging.
    Yes. SuperCheap (or Repco) should be able to help you out there too.
    The point here is that you need to have access to a code reader that will read all the Prius ECUs (computers, if you will) to find out what the car thinks has failed. With these codes, you will have a better idea of where to focus your attention, or seek specialist help, if it is beyond your skill level or capability. As Patrick said, go to this step if you still have problems after attending to step 1.
