One of the reasons I purchased the Limited trim is to use intelligent parking assist for parallel and back-in parking. I've used it a few times and I am not really impressed. Most times, the car does not detect a wide open spot and other times, the car either does not park straight or nearly hits a parked car. Am I doing something wrong?
I’ve used it a handful of times. Mostly backing into a parking lot slot. It did a good job. I’ve used it twice to parallel park and I had no complaints with how it worked for that as well. I avoided parallel parking in the past but now not so much going forward.
yes. I really like it, it's a very useful feature. No complaints at all. there must be cars or other obstacles surrounding the spot for it to work well.
Works for me. Make sure you are using it correctly. Hit the park assist while you're driving along looking for a parallel parking spot, as you pass the open space it will detect it, ask you to stop and go into reverse. You control the brakes, and the car does steering, so if you hit something it's because you didn't brake.
The parking assist told me to stop when I was using it to back into a parking spot, which I did, as I was close to the car next to me, but it did not tell me to go forward to straighten out. I was hoping it would tell me to go forward, then straighten the wheel automatically, and then tell me to reverse again. It didn't do that so my car was parked diagonally and over the parking spot lines.
I just use the rear view camera when I back into a parking spot. It is much better than just using them mirrors on my previous car. Guess I am not ready to try the computerized parking help. Like one step at a time.
I have a handful of times. It's usually if I'm lazy or just wanna have the computer park for me. I've used both parallel park and reverse/back in park as well as parallel park exit features. I seem to have more success with parallel parking (although I've heard of reviewers or owners curbing their wheels so I'm always checking the passenger side mirror to make sure it doesn't do so).
Yes, it works well. As someone stated earlier, you must press the Park Assist button as you are driving by the line of cars, as it will select the parking spot and alert you when to stop. Follow the directions displayed on the MID, and keep your hands OFF the wheel. If your hands are on the wheel and you offer "any resistance" to the auto movement of the wheel, it will "Cancel" the Park Assist function, and you will have to finish the parking on your own. Also, it does not look at pavement lines or the curb; It will park your car directly in line with the cars in front and rear. So if those cars are 3' from the curb, that's where you will end up. I have never had an issue with "curbing" my wheels, but I suppose of one of the parked cars is on the curb, you may hit the curb as well. ….. For "back-In parking", it does not read the pavement lines; it will center your vehicle evenly between the two parked cars...… so if they are parked over the lines, you will also be parked over the line. And since you are a Prius, you will be the one blamed for taking up two spots!
I tried it twice.. most horrifying experience in my life, although 2nd time was better than 1st. Basically you need to be going very very slow.. First time I went at the speed I would normally be parking, and it was a miracle I didn't smashed up the Tesla next to me.
