    Newbie here- I'm so upset- my first brand new car- original owner, done all maintenance (at dealership) to a T. Went out of town for 10 days- upon returning and starting my car there was a very loud rattle that sounded like a reindeer was trying to climb out of the engine (clacking clattering type loud rattle) it lasted about 10 seconds. Was in a rush to get somewhere and when it stopped I proceeded to drive. Fast forward about a week later was driving in stop n go traffic and felt a mild shuttering/shaking in engine. Took to dealership to have checked- "no problems no codes". Now one more week later and the shaking is very noticeable especially at a cold start. Also- should note that when I take my foot off the accelerator I feel the car doing a tiny jolt as it goes into battery mode- definitely was not this harsh before . i brought a brand new car so I wouldn't have to worry about this type of things- I don't have time to deal with this. I don't feel safe in this car. I have extended warranty and I am reading that the coverage is voided if I continue driving the car when problem persists- but if Toyota is saying it's "all good" and I keep driving it I'm worried warranty won't cover whatever is wrong with this. As a woman, this dealership naturally just treats me like I'm being picky and crazy and there's nothing wrong. The shaking is very obvious and definitely not coming from the tires. If anyone could please share similar experience??? This car only has 26k miles!!!!

    Your Prius v is mechanically probably more like a Gen 3 Prius hatchback than a Gen 4. In other words, they didn't update the 2016 "v" cars when they did the 2016 hatchback. There's quite a bit of discussion about engine rattle upon cold starting in that section. I'd refer you to the Gen 3 section...haven't seen any discussion of engine rattle in Gen 4 (yet!)

    If this is a brand new car, I would take it to the dealer for a complete inspection. Your situation doesn't sound good and your car is still under warranty.

    I agree. Id go straight back to the dealer. That's the easiest, the safest and the right way to do it. You touch anything with the car it might conflict the warranty.

    Try to video the behavior if possible, if it's an intermittent thing, so you've got some proof, and something to show them. If you've got another dealership nearby, maybe try them too. Seems like you have two problems:

    1. Engine shaking. At 23/26K miles, it is very early, for EGR clogging, which is often the culprit.
    2. A dealership that doesn't want to know.

    No- not like that- less like a tractor sound - less repetitive more like a tumbling uneven clacking sound - I thought Toyota’s were supposed to be good- after browsing around on this forum I may have changed my minds on that. I'm wondering if lemon law would help me on this- this car has had issues from the get go- mostly cosmetic- now this!!! Still very upset

    At dealership again - they are telling me there's nothing wrong with the car (can't replicate the problem) and now paying $150 diagnostic fee for them to "check further"

    I only have this problem whenever I start the car to move it in and out of the garage. When the engine doesn't warm up to temperature, it will cause this knocking when I start the car next time. So now I make sure I run the car around the block before turning it off

    You better check up on the criteria for using the lemon law, you have a long way to go before it applies.

    Yes- well, it's been acting weird for about a month off and on depending on the temp outside.

    They told me the same thing again today- there's nothing wrong with it "can't replicate problem and no codes" after happily taking $150

    Goes without saying keep all the bills, a log, and try to video the phenomena whenever you get the chance. Consider sounding out another dealership? Wouldn't hurt to talk to another place.

    @PriusMeg

    Did you happen to see this post?

    Do you ever start your car and shut it off while the gas engine is running?
    Like musical cars maybe in your driveway?

    This is a very common problem with your engine, so if you can definitely say that above is not happening,
    then your problem is only common with much higher miles then you have....like closer to 100k miles or higher
