I've tried 3 different 9005's LED light bulbs off Amazon and nothing is working for me. Please recommend headlight bulbs for a 2010 Prius gen 3 solar roof option... Thanks. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
You've got an H11 (lo beam) in your hand, just thought I'd point that out... 9005 is hi beam. I'd recommend against LEDs for the low beam (if that's what you are really trying to replace). OEM Philips halogens work fine, the 2010 low beam lamps are actually really good (with fresh bulbs... most people don't realize that these things get dim long before they burn out).
I installed OPT7 FluxBeam LEDs on both low beams and high beams, they're a bit pricey but they're definitely worth it. Much easier to see out on the road at night, and I just like the look of the metallic red bulb poking out from the headlight assembly. It's been almost 2 years since I first installed them and all four bulbs are still working perfectly. Pretty sure I found them on amazon. Just a heads up though if you do buy them it is a bit difficult fitting them into the high beam slot but I can confirm they do fit with some patience, it's just a tight fit.
I installed these Sealight LEDs for the low beams on our 2012 hatchback about 4 months ago, and have been running them in all day or night driving since then with no problems. These are the passively-cooled versions without fans but with a sizable aluminum-finned heat sink at the rear of each bulb. The installation was designed to plug into the socket in the Prius wiring harness and then have the bulb insert and rotate into the headlight housing in exactly the same way as you remove the original halogen bulb. You must also mount a small black plastic ballast (about 1”x2”x1/2” IIRC), which I zip-tied to the wiring harness bundle just in back of each bulb. The resulting light is noticeably brighter but also more bluish than the OEM halogens, but probably not as bright as some of the higher wattage, fan-cooled LED bulbs available. The cutoff level for the projected beam appears to be at exactly the same level as the halogens judging by the cutoff line position on my garage door. I have not had people flashing their lights at me at night, and I feel that using them during the day has helped avoid people pulling out right in front of me from side streets. (Not sure if this lower power, passive cooled version is still being sold on Amazon or not.) Good luck with your choice!
I just installed beamtech H11 LED, the only hard part is getting old H11 (low) beams OUT but with the extension cord on the bulb and the big aluminum cooling base on the bulb the installation was actually much easier than original OEM Prius H11 bulb. Price of Beamtech is $39. Light is better than OEM but the Hikari H11 for $69 may be the brighter bulb of the two.
