Hello, I purchased my Prius C Two in June (6 months ago) at 23,000 miles and overall great condition. The dealer talked me into adding on the Platinum Coverage plan, which he claimed would extend the warranty and provide bumper to bumper care. Just recently, I brought the car into a local dealer (different from where I purchased) and they tried to charge me $1300 for services they said were not covered by the warranty: Rear brake out of adjustment, issue with parking brake, and fuel injection and coolant flush needed. They also charged me $150 for the diagnosis and another $50 to replace my key battery. I am shocked that after owning the car for 6 months and adding 4,000 miles to it that I would need to spend $1400 and none of this is covered by the comprehensive warranty. Does this seem like the original seller was dishonest in presenting a 100-point inspection? Do I need to get a second opinion (Dealership or no dealership?) Any advice would be super appreciated. Everything you mention being completed is "maintenance" (aka: not broken). Maintenance typically is something you have to pay for yourself. Second. - That fuel injection work (unless you complained about something) wasn't necessary. That cooling system flush? Nope, that wasn't needed either at your current mileage interval. Third - that battery for your key fob? Yup, also up to you to pay for. I hate to be the bearer of that news, but I do highly recommend you find / read your vehicles maintenance intervals. I personally am not a big fan of extended warranties. Works for some I suppose, but generally these are nothing more than a money maker for the dealer. You can cancel that warranty and receive a refund. In the future, I'd not utilize this dealer unless it's a warranty issue and all of that's expired except for the coverage remaining on the High Voltage battery. Well, I guess you have that extended warranty, but you need to REALLY read that and see just what is covered. In regards to the selling dealer being dishonest. No I don't really think they were dishonest submitting that 100 point inspection. But they (just like all of them including my own) have finance managers which push those extended warranties. (It's a big profit maker) Sadly, you fell for the sales pitch on it. There also isn't any need for a second opinion on what the dealer did. They "recommended" it, you said ok, and now you have to pay for it. Had you known it wasn't necessary, you would have known to say no....
Since you are asking if you should get a second opinion, I'll asume you didn't have the work done, which is a good thing. 1. Coolant: it's a good idea to have it replaced every two years, but a "flush" is rarely required. 2. Brake Adjustment: hardly ever needed, especially at that low mileage. Maybe a caliper lube, but that's it. 3. Fuel injector probelm: also hardly ever needed, unless you noticed some kind of driveability issues. 4. Key fob battery: I have keyless entry so can't speak to how often that needs replacing. But the charge was too much. The battery costs $6-10 dollars and the procedure takes 2 minutes. Go to Walmart for the bvattery and do it yourself if its needed. 5. Diagnosis: $110- $120 is the going rate, but you should only have to pay that if you didn't have the work done. . I don't think your selling dealer was dishonest, but the one you took it to for repair may be, although you don't say what problem brought you into the dealer in the first place. The Prius C is one of the most reliable cars ever made. I have 130,000 on my 2012 and haven't needed any of the work you were told was required. Dubit's advise to read maintenance schedule and your extended waranty is spot on.
Prius c key battery change Yes takes less than 2 minutes and a few dollars 3 years is about standard for replacement of the original Everything including the battery, you got ripped off 100% -insert very big sad face here Yes read you maintenance booklet and see that really none of that work is required. I think coolant is perhaps recommended after 10 years or ~120k fuel system, if they even did anything, they put a $10 bottle in the gas tank. This place you took it to, is called a stealership, dont go again. The only thing I see they didnt charge you for is a wallet flush, but looks like they did it for sure. Stick around here and ask any questions to see if anything is needed. Unless something is wrong, your prius c should only need oil changes about once/twice a year tire rotation, and a brake lube every 3 years in the near future. Please find another place to service/inspect your vehicle if you dont diy
welcome! is that a mafia owned dealership? but seriously, your car doesn't need anything. i hope you didn't really give them $50. to change the fob battery. why did you bring it in? why did it nedd a diagnosis?
You were totally ripped off. I have the exact same car, with the identical mileage and it needs nothing that you paid for, in fact the oil change at 20,000 miles is free from Toyota. I haven't spent a penny on servicing the car. Also if you purchased the car from a dealer with a non-factory warranty you need to go back to that dealer to get the work done. Why did you expect some other dealer to honor the warranty? At that mileage the car should still be covered by the original Toyota warranty at any Toyota dealership.
