Guys, I have been told my hybrid battery needs replacing by the main dealer today, are there any options other than paying the dealer £1700? I am in the U.K.
There are options. You can attempt to replace the bad cells, you can get a refurbished pack from a different seller, or you could go new from dealer, etc. There are lots of opinions on each option, so it's probably best to do your own research. If you are not a D.I.Y type of person I'd go new, or at least one with a good warranty. If your dealer is offering a NEW pack for 1700 pounds installed, that's actually a good deal, I would just be absolutely sure it's NEW and not a refurb.

it's a bit different in the u/k than here it think. but if you're no longer under warranty, the options in post #2 are all that is available. you can either put in a new one, repair ir yourself (cheap but time consuming and a large learning curve) or look around for rebuilders. but be careful, there are a lot of scam artists who throw in a new module without doing a proper balancing job, leading to a short lifespan. others offer warranty, but every time your battery dies, you're on the side of the road until they come fix it. that is, if they're even around or return your phone calls. another possibility is that the dealership might have misdiagnosed. a second opinion is usually recommended, but not cheap. you can generally drive it no problem for quite a long time with the bad module(s) how many miles on her?
To be honest check hybrid means a lot of things. It can be many ither things that set off the light. Im About to install some modules on mine found them On ebay with 6 months guarantee. Other option is if you want brand new i know someone that fits for 1000 all in with 100k warranty. For someone to repair is long and not cheap. The only time i would advise is if doing it yourself.
I had similar message on dashboard take it to my trusty mechanic who is specialist on hybrid cars . The fault was with 12v battery which was very cheap . I changed the battery and all message clear now .
I am having mine fitted for that price, my car is due a mot and will not pass with fault code flashing up, my car is a 2010 180mls. Cannot use it or sell it as it stands, been asked £900 for a back st garage to fit one they have but it’s not new, so my thinking is the new toyota is the best choice, when I sell the car advertising a brand new toyota battery, I sm sure it will get a far better price.
