Hi! I have an 04 prius with over 300K miles on it. I am getting the following codes: p0802 code p0420 code I took it to a mech and he said there was a leak in the pipe (or ring around pipe) leading to the catalytic converter but the converter itself was good. Might get second opinion on that matter. However the other code has me worried. The car drives fine however it won’t start unless the key fob is in the slot (use to start without it). Also the doors don’t respond to the fob anymore (use to). The radio is dead (use to work). And when all of these components use to work the engine was making a noise but now that these items are no longer working I am not hearing the sound anymore from the engine. So is this a DIY fix or will it cost $$$ to get it fixed by a mech?
Who pulled those DTCs and what OBD2 scanner was used? Have you pressed the SKS button underneath the steering wheel by mistake?
The previous owner tossed in a diagnostic code reader that plugs into the car underneath the steering column. Would have to check the name and model info. And when the key fob stopped being responded to I hit the sks button (black button that states key above it) a few times as I read that can reset the fob. I replaced the batteries in the fob but that didn’t seem to help the matter.
I do not think this is a valid code. Now, if this was P0302 that would point to a cylinder 2 engine misfire. 1. Replace the fob battery (you need a CR2032 battery). 2. The radio being dead is a separate issue. Start by checking the relevant fuses: 10A GAUGE, 15A DOME, 7.5A ACC.
I took the fob to a batteries plus store and they replaced the battery for me. It has no effect. And thanks for the fuse idea! As for the code I think it’s related to the red triangle light coming on. I know the p0420 code is related to the converter.
An engine misfire most often is caused by a failed spark plug, or spark igniter, or fuel injector. If all of those are good then the cylinder compression may be low due to the engine being worn out.
