It's been happening a white, 2013 Prius with 98,xxx miles or so. When we turn left it makes a noise like something is rubbing against another part- not a terrible noise otherwise I would've taken it in a while ago. Any thoughts?
whoa, that is very very bad news. Time to trade it in for the new Prime, your pick Rav4 or Prius jk, might just be something rubbing in the wheel well. Have to get down there to check with wheel turned Or even the steering wheel. Is the noise outside or inside?
hahaha Noise is inside the cabin, Not sure about outside. It is quite literally the very first issue we have had with the vehicle outside of just the regular maintenance. Haven't even had to replace brakes yet.
so do you think it's worth taking in, could it cause further issues to my wife's vehicle or are we ok to keep going?
I have not read here on priuschat about this, but both my prius have some "feedback" when turning the steering wheel. Turn it slowly and you can hear something. not sure if is the electric steering or what. Heard from the cabin, and basically can feel it thru my hands too.
Dont jump to conclusions yet. That would cost you some chunk of change. Im sure they will find lots of problems that need to be addressed.
I would say to start with jumping in the drivers seat, get it to "ready" windows up, no noise going on. and slowly turn steering wheel, see if the noise is the same. On my "c" I get it, but also some possible plastic on plastic noise. But last time I spent some time doing it, it just seems to be "electric" and not so much plastic rubbing. Hard to explain But I would also check the wheel well outside to make sure nothing is danglin' or rubbing the tire etc
Does the noise change depending on speed? Is there noise at all speeds? Have you cranked the wheel and checked for clearance?
It would be interesting to walk along the car while someone else is driving to see what it sounds like from outside. Actually, if you could record it and post that might help everyone diagnose. At this point my wild guess is suspension.
yeah you can post a video. Some people have trouble. If you have a youtube acct, you can also post it there, then link posted here will also work
