Here's the wheels I decided on...

    Funny thing this morning...I saw an add on TV on a wholesale wheel and tire dealer here in Youngstown, Ohio. So, I decided to check it out. First thing I saw on the wall was a wheel on display that looked just perfect for my car. I decided to ask the salesgal about it (17x7.5). She even recommended that the sensors be transferred over from my stock wheels (I decided to keep my stock wheels for Winter driving and I will live with the warning light being on all the time during the cold season.

    To make a long story short...from the $2,800 quote that I got from the Toyota dealership for a set of 17 inch Scion TC wheels with sensors, I got these babies for a mere $860.00. Sensors were mine of course.

    Now, here's the trade off...

    They are way heavier than the stock wheels obviously. I'll take one wheel off tomorrow and weigh it and I'll let you guys know...

    I reset my MFD to see how my mpg will be affected. Oh, I'm sure it'll be AFFECTED!

    By the way...since my sensors are in my new wheels, I went into my setup display and clicked on "set tires". Then, the computer said that the car was in "calibration mode". Is that all there is to it?

    A question though. Do your sensors sit flush to the wheel wall?

    To reset the sensors there is actually a button under the steering column that you push and hold down to reset the system. Check your manual, as I don't remember offhand the exact duration.

    Since driving my car with my new boots :D , I noticed that there is a mild loss of dead center on the steering wheel. Is it because the wheels are HUGE and HEAVY? <_< . Ya know, the steering wheel isn't really straight anymore, especially when driving straight ahead. There is a very mild tendency for the car to veer to the right, so I feel like I tend to pull the steering wheel to the left. Now, I am scheduling my first FREE oil change with my dealer this week. Should I have them check the alignment since getting my new wheels? Please advice...

    Hi Vince

    That was quick! The wheels look really great! I will be interested to hear how they compare in riding comfort.

    Just remember, your speedometer and odometer will not automatically give you the correct indications, now. The overall diameter of your wheel/tire combination may be different so that you are travelling a different distance for each wheel revolution than before. If you can determine what the number of revolutions per mile was before and is now, you can calculate that difference. Maybe your salesperson can help you. Perhaps someone else here on PC can help, also.

    Darn, I'm bad at MATH! :D I seriously thought that the TPMS took care of that. That the revolutions were calculated by the computer through the sensor. Hmmmmmm. Guess not. I guess the best way to figure out the total mpg per tank would be to fill the tank up full, and reset the speedometer. Then, on next fill up, figure out the total liters of gas put in, and divide that into the miles incurred. <_<

    Don't worry, the difference is negligible. I think it's about 0.3% for that tire size (I have the same size) there's more variability in tires of same size from different manufacturers. Besides, the Prius can't acieve the speeds where the difference between indicated and actual are significant (not many cars can).

    You don't need to do any math. just drive and enjoy.

    When I got my Status rims and tires on the Prius, I noticed that my MPG dropped a bit, but only from around 50 MPG to about 40-45 MPG.

    On the Camry (slightly larger engine and all), not as much of a drop, if at all, when I put Status rims and the tires on. I am getting anywhere between 35-40 MPG in that car, which is about right, according to the sticker.

    One thing that went up, was my SPM.

    Smiles Per Mile. I love my rims; think they look way cooler then the stock ones, and also are safer, since I have better tires on the car now.

    If your car did not pull to one side before the new wheels I am shocked to hear it does now. I would check the tire pressure first. I have never heard of replacement wheels changing an alignment.

    I weighed one wheel today. It's a whopping 44.5 pounds! OUCH! :eek:

    WOW! I believe the stock wheel/tire is 32.3 lbs. So it will be interesting what the mpg is with this new and really nice wheel .....
