I have a 2007 Toyota Prius, the owner manual states that when you turn ignition on all dash lights including VSC light should turn on momentarily and then stay off. When I turn car on all dash lights show except the VSC light and I don’t know if the system was turned off or how to turn it back on. Also if I hold the brake pedal and push start twice, again all lights illuminate except the VSC light. A number of times driving on wet roads or icy roads the slippery light flashes on dash and although I have just installed all year Michelin tires, the car does slide a bit. Does any one know if the VSC system is on or off. Thanks

The VSC system on the Gen 2 Prius cannot be turned off. If the dash light is not lit under normal driving, it is functioning properly. You don't have to worry unless it turns on and stays on.

Thanks for the VSC procedure on Gen II cars. I was just concerned since it was not showing up on dash when key was put into ignition to turn the car on
    Best wishes

Hmm, I'm not sure about that then. I have not seen anyone on here talking about replacing burnt out bulbs for dash lights. I'm guessing they are LEDs and just don't burn out. In your first post you said that the VSC light does turn on when you turn on the car. Are you saying it does not turn on only when you insert the key as opposed to using the Smart Key system to start it with the key in your pocket?

Just to clear up something, as I can't really understand clearly what it is that is happening for the OP.

The self-check routine does not occur when you insert the key in the slot. It occurs when, with the key inserted (with non-SKS) in the slot, you have your foot on the brake and press the power button once. As part of the startup, the computer will illuminate all the lights for about 1 (or 2) seconds, except the Master Caution Light, then all the lights should then turn off.

So can the OP clarify what behavior is causing concern?

And btw, if you leave your foot off the brake and press the power button twice, all the lights illuminate (again except for the Master Caution Light) and stay on.

Just to clarify, You are right , all lights should illuminate for 1 or 2 seconds, if you hold brake and push start, or they should all illuminate when you have your foot off the pedal and push start bottom twice, in my case I am missing the light for VSC in both cases.
    Thanks

That would suggest the light that illuminates that LED on the light cluster has failed.

Or if the OP’s car is not at least an Option Package 2 model, it does not have VSC.

Thanks for the technical info, here is a link that’s shows how to get to instrument cluster panel, there is no light bulb just a circuit board at the end, so not sure if we have to replace the whole board or try to fix the location where VSC light has failed
