Hi all, Here is my 2018 Prius Prime sound proofing project with before and after compare. Got better but not much, did four doors, front row floor, front wheel well liner and hood lid, anywhere I can do in future? Thanks Special thanks: RobertZ Prius Prime detailed sound proofing procedure. | PriusChat
Great work & good job ! It's my personal belief that "most" of your noise is coming up through your wheel wells. If you feel like going for round 2, I'd tell you to contact that Second Skin for advise on the best wheel well solution. My guess is it will be 2 separate products working together in an effort to suppress your noise levels in that location. A call to their tech-line will confirm. EDIT: I was mostly thinking that the Spectrum Sludge would be easy to apply in the wheel well area. www.secondskinaudio.com/sound-deadening/spectrum-sludge Rob43
3.5 dB reduction is pretty good, actually. Less than half as loud. I have not ridden in the back seat, but my wife has and she says it's a lot louder back there. I suspect it's coming in through the hatch area. You'd probably need to remove the traction battery to get to the bottom back there and deaden that area along with the wheel wells.
Congrats, that's a very big improvement. Also thanks for taking the time to measure before & after. Nearly never happens with soundproofing projects.
Very nice job. Thank you for sharing. I recently traded in my 2017 Prime for a 2020 Prime. It seems I hear a lot more road noise from the lower part of the driver's door on my new car. I am wondering if the weatherstripping around the door changed or something.
Curiously, did your tires change from one brand/model to another ? Tires are a VERY big factor in perceived road noise. Rob43
I've never tried doing it in a Prime but I've never found anything more effective than sheer mass in that location. Asphalt compound is quite effective- lots of nice quiet cars got about 200lbs of it poured into the floor pans.
