On telling a lady friend of ours about my wife's new acquisition (2006 Prius), the first question she asked was "have you named her yet?" It had never occurred to me that Prii were female or that they needed a name. Is this usual and I wonder if any members here have given theirs a name? Mike
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Stringmike @ Sep 19 2006, 09:48 AM) </div> I call mine "Pria". In my language (Sinhala) it means "pleasing to the eye" and it also sounds like a shortened term for "Prius". It's also a girl's name in Sri Lanka, where I am from. So my Pria is definitely a girl.
Bob (good ol Bob) Always reliable, always available, and a lways economical. I love when people tell me you are not going to get your money back. I always tell them oh yeah your truck cost you $400 + in gas a month plus a $400 monthly payment and insurance of who knows what. My Prius cost less than $60 (sometimes $40) in gas a month. So even though I pay nearly the same monthly payment I know my insurance is cheaper. I save money. The value of a $30,000 truck after being driven off the lot drops at least 5- 10 thousand dollars, my Prius is still worth what I paid for it and that’s on trade in. I think if I sold private party I could actually make a profit. How’s that for value. Large vehicle 400 monthly payment 400 in gas 150 insurance just guessing 950 a month to own Prius 400 monthly payment 60 in gas 50 insurance 510 a month to own. These are just guesses nothing rock solid. Im just going on averages from friends and myself. Putting at least $500 in my pocket a month makes the prius (among many other factors and perks) woth it to me.
I named the Prius "Blue Belle" after our cat "Silver Belle". It was more of a memorial to her as she had to be euthanized a week after I got the car.
Well... my Prius just really needed a name. I had a few ideas, but nothing clicked. For some reason Trixie Blu popped into my head. It's certainly not a name I would have normally thought of. I think my car named herself. Don't bother calling the men with the white coats to come get me. I'm the mother of two teenage daughters. My padded room is already booked!

Prifontaine. Or Steve. Or just Pre. We were playing the front yard yesterday and a tennis ball rolled under my car. My 2 1/2 year old yelled out "Oh no, the ball went under Prifontaine!!!" So he has got the name down.

ABSOLUTELY.!!! From my first car ("Gallopin' Gertrude" - 1931 Model A 2-door sedan - VERY USED!), each succeeding car has been named. My 2004 Prius with NAV is named "Ernestine" after Lili Tomlin's LaughIn telephone operator character (Remember? "One ringie-dingie... Two ringie-dingies... Have I reached the party to whom I'm speaking?") This since verbal requests sometimes result in completely innane responses totally unrelated to my request. I may say "Go Home" and Ernestine may respond sometimes with "Showing Post Office Icons" or something as completely foreign to my request. Rather than being irritated to these peculiarities, I smile and consider them entertainment.
Mine's named Buzz...not after the Disney character, but because of the strange noises which she is sometimes wont to make. Sounds kind of 'space-age' too.

Hmm, maybe I'm just odd. I've never named a car, nor do I consider my Prius to have a gender. It is a wonderful piece of technology however.
This is the only car I've ever had that I've named. Prii just seem to have their own personalities and therefore, need a name.
