Aftermarket Wheel Fitment Guidelines

I get excellent mileage using my 17" Corolla wheels with Firestone 215/45/17 tires. At least 25 mile electric range and 55+ mpg using gas on the freeway at 70-75mph. So maybe 10% lower than the stock 15". I average 1000 miles a month and use about 9 gallons a month. So my "crazy" penalty is at most $4.00 a month.

But... I receive significantly improved cornering and shorter emergency braking. And I think they look way better than stock. Overall, well worth it for me. Oh, and I sold my stock wheels/tires/hubacps for MORE than I paid for the Corolla wheels/tires.

 

Those look great, doesn’t sound like much of a mileage hit at all. What do you estimate they weigh? Mid 30 pound range?

 

They are OEM and heavy. I think 24lbs per wheel.

 

Finally got around to getting my new wheels. Ordered from discount tire. Install took 30 min. $590 total. Drag dr-69 wheels. Same width and diameter as stock. Maybe a lb lighter. Really changes up the look.

 

Are your new wheels using the stock OEM lug nuts? Your wheel has dual bolt pattern holes like my 15" MB wheels I bought for the winter tires. My wheels do not take OEM TOYOTA lug nuts, instead, I have to use thinner tuner lug nuts. I hate needing a special key for my winter wheels and looking for 15" stock size wheels that can take OEM lug nuts. Also, how big is your center hub bore? Are you using hub rings?

Our OEM wheels sell for around $100 each, and the hubcaps go for around $50 each. The Drag dr-69 wheels are $100 each. So he may have actually made money on this swap, even after installation costs. Plus he may have wanted black wheels for a unique look.

 

To answer the questions... tried the stock without covers and while I like the look on a white prime in my neighborhood, I didn’t like it on mine. Wanted black to go with the magnetic gray and wanted to use same tires. So, I got these. No hit to mileage and a good price. I live in a community where I have no storage or anywhere to work outside so No DIY work and sold the wheels to a company that paid for shipping. Didn’t get my full cost out of them but also didn’t have to hang onto them. Overall a good deal for me.

 

Had to get new lugs. At least I am in Cali and don’t have to change tires. Yes, using hub centric rings. Bore is 53 I think.

 

Just picked up the identical wheels to yours. Would you recommend going with 225/45/17? I saw on tire comparisons that the 225/45/17 has identical dimensions to the stock 195/65/15 except the width. The 225's shouldn't throw off the speedometer. What did you use for the lug nuts and wheel lock? Thanks for the info.

 

After I pulled off the wheeldiscs, I popped the center caps out of them and glued them onto the pretty stock alloys with a dab of clear silicone.
Couldn't be happier with the results.

 

Be careful. If the silicone caulk smells like acetic acid, it may start working on the aluminum:

whats a cheap, no-nonsense (steel?) wheel that will take regular tire that will fit on 2020 Prime?

I'd like to at least have one spare "real tire" on a wheel ready to go, even if it stays in my van/storage-shed and requires a rescue mission.

 

This rim was mentioned in one of the snow tire thread for RPIME.

But any tire shop or online store will have a decent generic steel rim for $40-$80. If you want Toyota OEM, older Corolla steel 15" wheel will fit with a correct center bore size. I can't remember the parts number but IIRC a new one will cost over $100 now but you can find used one on eBay for about ~$70.

 

Hum, he lives in Texas. I don't think he needs the new rim for winter tires but just wants a full-size spare tire.
