2012 Prius Four - I noticed yesterday that the annoying, always-on when the passenger seat is unoccupied "AIR BAG OFF" light no longer lights with the engine running. I sat in the passenger seat with the car running and the "AIR BAG ON" lamp does come on. Should I be concerned?
If I remember right, neither light is meant to be on when the seat is completely unoccupied. When the seat is occupied with a weight pattern that the car classifies as an adult human, AIR BAG ON should light. When the seat is occupied with a weight pattern that is classified as a child, or stuff, AIR BAG OFF should light. When there's really nothing there, no light. Maybe the OCS was a bit miscalibrated or something was stuck on or under the seat making it think some stuff was there, and now not?
I put a cooler in the passenger seat sometimes. If it's heavy enough, it will activate the air bag, and the stupid seat belt ding goes off! And it won't shut off until you buckle the seatbelt. I hate al those stupid things.
I guess techstream can turn it off too. The first thing I did was turn off the constant back up beeping!!!
Thank you to all that replied. I did buy the car used so it could have had something lodged under the passenger seat that moved to cause the static display change to "all lamps off". That morning I had to go through a semi-rough patch of road construction. With the Prius Plus package on board, it was a teeth-rattling ride. Thanks again.
