I think I am up for the task of changing my own air filter. It's up there with changing a light bulb. Where can I get the best air filter for a fair price? Or a better question. Which is the correct and best air filter for My 2017 Prius 2
Walk up to the parts counter at dealership, tell 'em you need an air filter (engine or cabin). They'll ask you a few questions regarding your vehicle, or if it's in there already, maybe just your phone number. Still: check the one that's in there first, verify it's in need of changing. The cabin filter still in our 2010 was put in at the factory. Ditto for engine filter. That's with a mere 50K miles, but yeah, both still viable.
The Toyota part numbers I posted two years ago are still correct, but the list prices have increased slightly.
I get the TYC 800208C from Amazon. If you order enough from RockAuto it will be even cheaper than Amazon
I replaced both the cabin and engine air filters myself. It takes about one minute each. I bought both at the dealer because there are just too many cheap imitations. Saving five bucks is not worth it. I paid approximately $45 for both. I do recommend that you look up the price of the part on the Toyota site. Many dealers will try to sell it to you for more unless you show them the price on the Toyota parts site.
Engine Air Filter Toyota Part Number: 17801-21060 Cabin Air Filter Toyota Part Number: 87139-28020 You can find it on Ebay or a direct parts online re-seller.
Just finished changing my engine air filter and cabin air filter. I went the Amazon route for both. The engine air filter quality was the same for generic. The cabin air filter for the generic was actually better quality than the genuine Toyota filter. I got the carbon air filter color like the genuine Toyota filter for cabin air. The engine air filter didn't look all that bad. The cabin air filter wasn't quite nasty looking, but definitely needed to be changed. The cabin air filter was original. 34,000 miles on the Prius. My question. Does Toyota replace the engine air filter once before the bumper to bumper warranty runs out? It didn't look bad but the hinges on the engine air filter compartment were stiff almost like they had never been touched since coming out from the factory in Japan. Here are the part numbers as provided by Striker325 for Prius Gen 4 air filters engine and cabin. I like to make online notes for google search engine. Engine Air Filter Toyota Part Number: 17801-21060 Cabin Air Filter Toyota Part Number: 87139-28020
The Warranty & Maintenance Guide (PDF) states that the first replacement is at 30,000 miles or 36 months; except under “Special Operating Conditions,” defined in the Guide, the filter wouldn’t have been inspected or replaced before then, unless the dealer checked it because they hoped to sell you a new one. As you may know, the basic warranty (which expires at 36,000 miles or 36 months, whichever comes first) doesn’t cover air filters or other maintenance items at all, and ToyotaCare no-cost service—at least according to the current program brochure (PDF)—ends at 2 years or 25,000 miles.
Based on the stiffness of the engine air compartment and fittings. I thought it had never been opened. The Cabin Air filter wasn't all that bad but definitely could benefit from cleaning. The dealer only mentioned the cabin air filter on my last visit. I told them I would take care of that myself. I will watch the MPG now. I doubt I will see any change but will update the forum with my fuel economy. Thanks for the feedback!
Mpg may be slightly better with with a filter with some build-up? The air flow being a bit restricted, it's like you've reduced the engine displacement? Both the cabin and engine filter, I figure the change interval should be when they're good-and-ready to be changed? At 85K and over 9 years, our (original) engine filter in particular, looks virtually new, until you look at it on a shallow angle: then you can see some dark deposit, but really minor.
I get these and these. I usually order like 4 of each at a time and slap em on the shelf More Information for DENSO 1433650 More Information for TYC 800208C
I got TYC cabin air filter. It's well made. I got the EcoGard XA10014 for the engine air filter. So far so good.
