I'm jealous of that "projection" icon on the menu.... (I have a 2017).

 

Prime can go over 100MPH?

 

When we were visiting Japan this last summer I rented a Roomy. Our last day I had to drive from Odawara to Narita Airport, and we were running late. They have a moderate speed limit but I never saw cops pull anyone over. (They kind of follow the fast lane as passing lane like EU). I was barrelling down the highway with that little engine (literally 996 cc from search) that could. I learned to turn off the AC if I needed acceleration or the car would lurch, but boy could it run!....

Japanese know how to make tiny engines that go...

The Toyo Nano Energy A29 tires are only rated to 112 mph so you wouldn't catch me running them at 105 mph for almost 2 hours like this guy did.

 

Why would anyone want to go that fast?

Make up time when stuck in Dallas and Austin traffic.

 

I mean the icon on the 11.6" screen that says "projection". I only have 4 icons (not 5), so I cant mirror my phone.

 

He was going 105mph in power mode atthat and got 48 mpg. That's darn good .

 

I'm with you. Definitely not on a street where you put others in danger.

But I will say that I've done it on several occasions with my fastest ever being 168mph in a highly modified Honda Civic. My first pull - scared shi*****. lol After 4-5 pulls though, it was huge thrill. Feeling that turbo kick and literally being pushed into the back of the seat while holding onto the wheel with a death grip. I mean look at the SIZE of the turbo on this Civic.

All was done in this Civic and all legal on a the strip. not street

My son also built this Honda Civic Hybrid. Sold it off before completing it though.

That's pretty good. I drove a PiP 2,200 miles on a road trip without charging once. 99% of the trip was open interstate at 75-80 mph, including up and over the Rocky Mtns, the Wasatch in Utah, and Cajon Pass in California. The total MPG for the whole trip was about 48 MPG. Not bad considering.

 

The Michelin Energy Savers on my Gen 2 (a.k.a. The Spaceship) are rated to 150 mph - not that I’ll ever normally get that fast, unless my Prius was released as a drop ship from the USS Sulaco!

(“We’re on an express elevator to Hell.....going down...!!!!”).

Otherwise, I purposely went for the overkill rating. I did touch 100 mph once though......

What a clown. Nothing like trashing a product by throwing ignorance.

He claims that Toyota has been selling the “same technology” over and over as a criticism of the Prime, yet recommends a conventional ICE vehicle?

He criticizes the trunk space (which does appear small - but is in fact 19 cu ft), then spouts a bunch of SUVs and larger vehicles. He mentions in the comments that he likes the Mazda 3 as a vehicle (incidentally - 13 cu ft, though in fairness that was not in the context of trunk space but just a vehicle in general he likes).

He doesn’t understand that the car needs to be *charged* in order to have EV capability? Clearly knowing about Charge Mode would be way beyond him if he can’t get his head around why batteries need power to be useful.

He seems genuinely confused it doesn’t have a power hatch (what hatchback does? That is something more found on crossovers and SUVs, Prius is clearly in the “Car” category). He also doesn’t seem to know what Carbon Fiber is either, which is odd given he seems to like premium vehicles.

Further to that, he complains about how expensive the Prime is, then complains it doesn’t have more expensive things, like a power hatch. If he were to look at a lesser equipped trim (since he seems to suggest all the tech is foreign to him), then he will see the pricing is very comparable to other midsize vehicles. Since Gen 2, the Prius has always been a deceptive vehicle as far as space IMO, it looks smaller on the outside, but very spacious on the inside.

As for “Toyota Fanboys”.... maybe these are people (like most of PC) who recognize that Toyota simply makes the most reliable and (mostly) efficient vehicles on the road, and do not spend large parts of their life in the shop getting expensive repairs like many of those expensive German vehicles.

Sure, Prius is not the fastest car on the road (not by a long shot), but the power is plenty adequate for daily driving, up to “spirited” driving. Same for cornering/performance. If power and speed are your number 1 requirement, then this car is not for you. But it fits great for a very large part of society who appreciate reasonably priced vehicles that are very dependable. While also doing your part for Mother Earth.

To be fair, the Gen 4 is MUCH smaller inside than the Gen 3. Knees bump dashboards and steering wheels, the cargo area is much more vertically challenged, that permanently folded down console thing in the rear seat makes buckling kids into their booster seats into an episode of cussing like Clark Griswold kicking the reindeer on his front lawn.

 

Hmmm, I assume you are referring to the Prime? I know the centre console in the rear is inconvenient and I agreed it would be more difficult with car seats and raised deck is well known, but I had never heard about less knee room... but then again I have only sat in a Prime once or twice.
