So about a year and half ago the dealer said that my ds suspension was leaking but that was a way off till I needed to replace that. The next service about six months later they said my oil pan was leaking and that needed to be replaced. This last service about six months ago they said it again but I had checked the oil level and it was at the top mark. I am bringing her in again this weekend and I'm pondering ifnl need to replace this oil pan even though oil is again at the top mark when I just checked it. Any thoughts?
Welcome to PriusChat!! How many miles on the vehicle? You might consider visiting a new dealer, as you can always return to the old one.
I'm guessing if they propose to replace it it's probably taken a few hits, enough that the flange is a bit skewed, seal is compromised. And/or it's distorted right at the drain bolt, making it hard to screw it in and seal properly. Someone had a thread on this subject a while back, and finally posted a pic the service department supplied her: it looked terrifically battered. I believe the drain bolt is very near the bit that typically hits speed bumps, driveway ridges and whatever. The part isn't too expensive, but they'll for sure hit you up for an hour's labour? Did they quote you a price for the pan? For reference: Oil Pan - Toyota (12102-21010) | Toyota Parts
Car is almost at 100K miles. I will check with them again tomorrow, but since this is kind of an expensive maintenance item, i do want to make sure its necessary before going ahead. And yah the pan itself aint that expensive, but overall i think they quoted around $450 for it. I could do it myself, but just not in the fixing mood lately...
