I reviewed the settings that set auto door lock and changed it to 30 seconds. However, after 30 seconds, I don't hear the door lock. I walked away with the key and came back without the key. Any idea how to confirm this actually is working? I have key fob with proximity sensor so the doors unlock when they detect my key and I pull on the door handle.
First, you need to define what you think "auto door lock" is supposed to do. I think you don't understand it properly. The only real automatic locking function I've found, (that is the doors locking not being triggered by another event like shifting into D or exceeding 10 MPH) is the one that RE-locks the doors if you unlock them with the remote and then don't open a door within some short time, like 60 seconds. That one can be a pain in the butt.
I want the doors to be locked by the time I walk away from the vehicle (30 seconds) so I don't have to push the lock button. I just want to make sure it's working. I noticed at some point that my door was unlocked when I randomly checked it without the key so I thought I had forgot to lock it.
As far as I know, it won't lock if you're outside the car - it only locks when you've turned it on and put it in a gear (ie other than P position). I think yhe only time it'll automatically lock if you're outside is if you unlock it using the FOB but don't open a door - it'll re-lock within 45-60 seconds.
Ours doesn't work like that. Here in the UK the Auto lock feature only works if you don't open a door after you've unlocked the car, ours is just to prevent accidental unlocking.
I believe that is the case in the US too. It should be documented in the written manuals shipped with the vehicle.
I used to have this feature on my previous car - Renualt Zoe, it wasnt timed though, it just locked as soon as you took a few steps away from the car. I really liked it, but I prefer the security of touching the door to lock it now, just in case.
The only thing close is when you unlock with fob, but don't open the doors and the car re-locks. I wish the car would have a feature like this. If it doesn't detect the fob anywhere in the car, the doors lock and the engine shuts off.
If that happened you could not drive with a bad fob battery. Now the car keeps running so you can drive to get a replacement.
That'd drive the service guys mad, and when you're going back and forth to pack for holidays. I don't want it.
I think we need a little clarification here.......again. Doesn't the "keyless start" function of the "remote" depend on an RFID chip that dies NOT require a battery in the remote to work ? And only the "button" functions of the remote require the battery ? So that if the battery goes dead in your remote, none of the buttons on the remote would work......but you could start and drive it just fine ?? Isn't that the way it works ???
