I am in the process of replacing the valve cover gasket with Felpro part VS50624R. There are two grommets in the package. When I opened up the valve cover and removed the old gasket I didn't find any grommets inside. Where do these go? I have attached a picture of the new gasket.

    Thanks!
    Sax

I do not think you will need the grommets.

It turns out those are the seal washers for the two bolts at the top of the valve cover - the long ones located between the cylinder openings at the top.

    Thank you.

How many miles and what kind of oil do you use and where do you get the oil changed please?

250 K. Mobil 1 was the last change. Moved to 100% synthetic about a year ago. I do them myself. So will you share what has you so curious?

I changed the valve cover gasket because it consumes a lot of oil. There’s a lot of oil in two of the cylinders (spark plug wells?).

i just like to see how different oils do in this car. Dino compared to synthetic. Looks like your car has seen alot of dino oil pre Mobil 1.
But at 250K miles thats a real good run.

I did my spark plugs last year and found oil in one of the wells pretty common but your new gasket will fix that.

I would clean the throttle body next its probably pretty gunked up. I found the pcv hoses had badly cracked ends on mine at 125k miles.

Ed, I thought I responded to this. I did both the throttle body and MAF sensor. Also, got a glimpse of the oil pool at the bottom. Left it alone.

There’s a few drops of oil leaking from somewhere around gasket. Might have to redo it by the book. Might have to buy a new in-lb torque wrench. The adventure continues.

Oil pool at the bottom of the TB is normal. Was there the day I bought my car new.

Its a good idea to run a bead of sealant around the timing chain area where the gasket mates.
