Hi fellas/ladies, mom looking to pick up my first PRI in the next week or 2, and think I can swing a 16 or 16 with a few miles. A friend at work let me borrow his ‘08 and I’ve dug it! (I come from a fully built, forged Cadi CTS-V that makes about 852/crank and 673/wheel horsepower. Gas is killing me at $50 every other day, so it’s Prius time. So far my targets are 2 16 “touring” editions. Would a 17 be any different? sorry for the newb questions, and I promise to read more on here. Thanks, Sommer86
I don't know of any differences between 16 and 17, maybe some others here know. I went from a 14 Plugin to a 17 Prime, the difference is quite big. but the plugins are a completely different animal than the regular Gen 4 Prius. Welcome to PC ! Sounds like it could be ....lol
The reason I asked - in Australia, there were no changes listed officially, and none that I know of. But in USA I think there were some differences to the Headlights, and, depending on the version, to the safety inclusions.
Sometime mid-2017 (USA) they switched from a cartridge to a spin-on oil filter. Mine is before the switch.
Some of the 16's were missing the ability to switch from kmh to mph. That was in North America, not sure how applicable in other parts of the world. (Second @alanclarkeau's confustion regarding location; it's probably California though??)
Makes sense, I wasn't even thinking of the different versions of the 16 and 17 gen4s when I posted above. opps
Check the math - after rebates and tax credits, you may be better (or nearly even) buying a brand new Prius Prime We just picked one up for my wife, last month. NET cost, even after $2700 in CA taxes, DMV fees, etc, will be: ~$18,700 Prius Prime - official prices paid thread | Page 159 | PriusChat Just a thought. You have to act quick, though, as the $1500 CA rebate must be applied for by 12/3/19
As a side note, changing the setting to imperial, changes EVERYTHING except the climate control temperature units. (so the speedo, the trip odo, the fuel consumption and even the navigation distances are all changed)
I thought early 2016, the speedo couldn't be changed? No Way to Change MPH to KPH on New 2016 Model Three | PriusChat
In 2017 they changed the headlights and added some safety features as standard. In mid 2017 they included more safety features as standard. I got an early 2017
Up here the main auto insurer (ICBC) has a new policy: if you have autonomous braking, it's worth a 10% discount. Not sure of the details, if it's (for example) the whole policy, or just collision. But yeah they're cognizant of it.
Many people in the northern US travel to Canada where metric is used. For some, being unable to change was a big issue. Toyota hinted any fix would need to involve hardware replacement.
The cartridge is not too bad if you have the proper tool and are careful placing the gasket. Less waste too.
