Hello! I am a total amateur and am working on my 2010 Prius head gasket replacement. I have two major issues! First one. I broke one of the brackets that runs across the cam shaft. I have no idea what the technical term for it is so it’s hard to find it. Second one. The timing chain is set correctly on all marks and tensioner is not on yet but the chain appears to have some slack between the two cam gears now. Will that go away when the tensioner is put on or do I need to take the cover off and make more adjustments?
The bracket that goes across both camshafts? According to the diagram I looked at it doesn't even have a name might not be sold separately. That is if I have the correct part. Is it the thing they put the blue shop towel piece under to keep the shafts from spinning in the head gasket video? How did you break it?
camshaft bearing cap? I'm not sure what part you mean, but that is the name of the part that goes over the top of a single camshaft, with a bolt on either side, creating the bearing. I have not done any timing work on my Prius yet, but from other cars, I know there should be no guesswork. Close enough does not apply here. It's either perfect or you've got a big problem, so be careful.
